Dear Secondary Community,
The weeks following the holidays have been filled with meaningful and profound celebrations that have perfectly showcased how truly international-minded our school is. As Ban Ki-moon once said: "We must foster a culture of peace — one in which people respect diversity and dialogue is encouraged."
It has been a privilege to take part in such a rich variety of celebrations and to learn from them, but even more important is witnessing the respect and appreciation that all our community members show for those observing their particular traditions and values. No doubt, this is one of GJS’s superpowers.
Thank you to everyone for taking us on an international journey through the celebrations of Nyepi, Idul Fitri, Easter, and Kartini Day. Each event deepens our understanding of one another and strengthens the bonds that make our community so special.
April was also a time for our Festival of Hope, a project that continues to bear fruit as our students take the experiences they gained and apply them to new initiatives, and even guide others in doing the same. On Monday, April 28, a group of students from Keystone Academy in China reached out to our students via video call to learn about their Festival of Hope planning process and seek advice as they begin a similar project at their own school.
This is pure agency in action, our students are not only leading at GJS, but now inspiring students internationally!
On another note, as we approach the end of the school year, we are entering exam season. Our seniors have already begun their DP exams this week, and they will be followed by Year 10 students taking their eAssessments next week, and Year 11 students sitting their internal exams the week after. These assessments are important milestones, both for the students’ academic journeys and for our development as a data-driven school, using results to inform and strengthen learning experiences. Parental support is key during this time. Helping students balance their workload and ensuring they get enough rest will make a significant difference in their performance and overall well-being.
Of course, the school year isn’t over yet! True to our GJS spirit, we still have many exciting events and learning opportunities ahead. Please continue to check our weekly Global Insights to stay updated on all the important dates and celebrations you won’t want to miss.
Thank you, as always, for your continuous support and for being an essential part of our vibrant GJS community.
