The exploration focus for this term in Kindergarten are Life Below Water and Life On Land. For the past 2 weeks, the students have been exploring life below water through videos and books, gaining information about the ocean and the living things in it. They also participated in creating the Life Below Water display, through craft activities using recycled materials. began by exploring the natural environment. The students learned to turn the bottle caps, empty water bottle, egg cartons, and papers from old magazines and calendars into various sea creatures—such as fish, jellyfish, coral, and seaweed.
Another activity to support students’ understanding about living things, Kindergarten students were given opportunities to take a nature walk around the school ground. They learned to observe their surroundings more carefully and critically, by identifying the different shapes of leaves on the trees in the school garden and expanding their vocabulary of natural objects. Students went to watch the fishes in the small pond near the Secondary building, also finding a grasshopper, chameleon, and lizard in the grass area near the big soccer field.
An exciting opportunity was planned for Kindergarten students to enhance their sensory as well as gaining understanding of the concept Life On Land. Students had a lot of fun playing barefoot on the big soccer field and splashed each other, also the teachers, with water. The day started with them playing some games in the field as a whole group, extending their social skills by learning to take turns and following the rules of the games. Students enjoyed the outdoor activities and ended the day with a special moment when they saw a rainbow formed by the fountain spray under the bright, sunny sky!
