If you are looking at doing some video work with your students, there are a few ways to make that experience more realistic, and to allow you to connect with a sense of PLACE through editing the background of your image or video! Check out GREEN SCREEN!
- You can use bright green fabric, green construction paper, green plastic tablecloths from the dollar store, or work with Disney Premium Plus Gamma Sector Green Paint, available at Home Depot. Get creative!
- This app (https://itunes.apple.com/…/green-screen-by-do-…/id730091131…) costs, $3.99 and is easy to use with awesome results. Designed for student-use, it is available on many of our SD73 iPads.
-Background images and videos can come from your photos, or be downloaded from your Google Drive.
Curriculum extensions: historical news stories, virtual exploration, news reel, habitat description, theatre work, art gallery tours, character development for writing, theme work, and more.
Above you will see two tutorial slide presentations to do work with Green Screen style video or image production. The pizza box theatre is set up for iPads with the Green Screen app. The green screen without green screen is set up for chromebook users.
Pro Tip: Think about how you want to light your video subjects (getting students to figure out the best lighting angles would add a lot to their thinking about film-making)
Having your students think about the best lighting to help their shot would help them to take ownership over their creation. What is the best angle to help? What do shadows look like if the lights are moved?
This tutorial shows how all three layers of the Green Screen editing can be used.
