BAND LESSONS FOR THE WEEK SEPTEMBER 21ST - SEPTEMBER  25TH

FOR BEGINNING  BAND:

Hafa Adai, Amazing Band Hawks!  For those of you who have attended Zoom Meetings and have stayed on task with all band assignments; I couldn't be more proud!  I am thoroughly enjoying this opportunity to work with you and get to know you all better!  Still, I am extremely worried!  There are some students who I still cannot connect with.  There are others who attended the first Zoom session, and perhaps did one or two assignments; but, sadly, I haven't heard from you since those first few days.  Class, I know this is hard.  I am sure some of you feel overwhelmed with remote learning.  Still, these assignments are not difficult.  If you need extra help, please reach out to me.   I will bend backward to help you.  All you have to do is email me to let me know you need help, and I will be sure to reach out to you!    On Monday, September 21st, I am holding a "MAKE-UP" ZOOM MEETING.  This is for people who have not attended other Zoom Meetings.  Here is a chance to catch up.  Plus, it is difficult to understand the assignments if you miss the Zoom Meetings.  If you need help in any way,  all you have to do is reach out to me.   My email is:  cwflores@gdoe.net.

METER SIGNATURES, MEASURES, AND BAR LINES

FOR ADVANCED BAND

Hafa Adai, Amazing Band Hawks!

This past week we learned the first four measures of the Chromatic Scale and the percussionists learned 8 different types of drum rolls; plus the "Diddle" Rudiments.   Sadly, we were missing a lot of students.  You are all so loyal; so I think the reason you did not attend last week's session may be my fault.  I was so stressed preparing the 3 Models of Learning for all of my students, updating Progress Reports, and trying to get the band instruments ready for you to take home.  When only a few students joined the Zoom Meeting, I realized I had forgotten to send you an email reminder.  I truly apologize for that!

It was, and still is my goal to get the instruments out to you on Thursday, September 24th...however, I am not so sure I will have all the instruments ready for you.  You see, now that you are going to keep them, I must make sure they work, and do not need minor repairs.  I am so proud to mention that I was able to fix a baritone that has been broken for 2 years.  I was also able to fix 2 trumpets that were new in 2018...but we could never use them (one was used for awhile).  They had issues.  For 2 years I have been trying to figure out what was wrong with them.  I would spend my entire Prep period working on one of the trumpets; and then the bell would ring.  I would need to teach...and somehow, I just couldn't figure out what was wrong with these trumpets.  So, I am so proud to say that I FINALLY figured out what was wrong with them!  They now work like a charm and are ready to be played by my fantastic trumpeters!

Still, fixing instruments has taken a lot of time. I am not sure I will have them all ready for you by Thursday.  I got all of the brass instruments, bass guitars (you will be using acoustic guitars), orchestra bells, sets of drumsticks, and 2 tenor saxes all set to go.  I still have to go through the flutes, clarinets, and alto saxes.  I will try to do this on Monday and Wednesday, after my beginning band classes; however, that will not give me a lot of time.  I have to be off campus by 1:30 PM.  That's when they set the burglar alarm.  I  will do my best.  If I don't finish on those 2 days,  I will go in on Thursday to finish up.  That means, you'll have to wait one more week before you can get the instruments.  I will be sure to let you know when you can come to school to pick up an instrument.  I truly appreciate your kind understanding!

This week, I will hold a MAKE-UP Zoom Meeting for all those who missed last week's meeting.  If you attended last week, you do not need to attend this week.   For those who missed last week's meeting, we are going to learn the second, third, and fourth measures of the chromatic scale, and for the percussionists, we are going to focus on the "diddle" rudiments.   I also want you to focus on the song I gave you, "Old Town Road".  It will be posted in our Google Classroom so that you can scroll down to your music and begin to look it over.  I have another song to share with you, as well.  It is called "Defeating the Giant".  The music for each of you can be found in Google Classroom.  You will have a few assignments for "Defeating the Giant"(I didn't give these assignments to you last week, so that you could research answers for "DO YOU REMEMBER").   They can be found in Google Classroom.

I have truly enjoyed our Zoom sessions!   Again, we will only have one Zoom session scheduled for this week to allow me time to finish preparing the instruments for you.   You will need to complete the "RESPONSIBILITY FORM", which will be your first assignment of the week.

By the way, if you need help with anything, I am here for you.  As two amazing band Hawks experienced, I will do anything to help you, even if it is a private Zoom session just for you to help you understand things better.  I am still trying to foster our theme: "ONE BAND, ONE SOUND, ONE TEAM, ONE FAMILY".   When you don't join Zoom sessions or connect with me, I really worry about you!

Have a great week, everyone!  Please stay healthy and safe!
