You have made it! Take in the view on the top rung of the self-care ladder! At this level, you desire a higher purpose and you want to help others move up the ladder. In transcendence, your base is strong and sturdy allowing you to help others.
This level is fleeting, unfortunately. You visit this rung, just as you do with self-actualization, but we don't normally stay here indefinitely. Our goals evolve over time as we learn and this provides opportunities to move back to these rungs of the ladder. These levels are so transformational that it reinforces our need to climb back up.
Maslow compares this level to a feeling of connecting to the world in powerful ways, as though you are outside ordinary experience. How do we get to this level? Ensure all the levels below this are solid, then strive to be inspired and to help others on a regular basis. Lead a life of happiness (self-actualization), but also connect to something outside yourself (transcendence). These areas push us to look outside ourselves and focus on the world in different ways.

According to Thrash and Elliot, inspiration is quantifiable and can be split into two pieces:
being "inspired by" something or someone
being "inspired to" do or be something
People who experience inspiration daily are "high in receptive engagement," or open to new experiences. Inspiration is encountered or sought, it doesn't just come to you.

Practicing gratitude helps us to connect to something greater than ourselves. "Gratitude is strongly and consistently associated with greater happiness. Gratitude helps people feel more positive emotions, relish good experiences, improve their health, deal with adversity, and build strong relationships." (Harvard Health Publishing, 2011)
