What have covered so far in the unit over the past couple of weeks, if you are unsure look at some of your previous work.
So for today's session you should have enough research to have been able broaden your idea from its original state.
Let's break this down!
In the last task we learned the basics of unreal in terms of creating visuals and some basic understanding of unreal blueprinting. When it comes to learning specific things in terms of implementing functionality in a game there are mechanics even I wouldn't have tried implementing. So if you have a specific enquiry you need to independently find answers to that through research.
Task 4.1:
You will do the following:
You will list two three mechanics that you would like to implement for your prototype.
Look at your game idea from task 1, and describe where will these mechanics be used in your idea.
List at least three occasions from your idea.
Describe what you will need to do in the software to create it.
Are you already aware of how to do this? If yes, then are you aware of the industry practice, however, then the goal will be to push yourself harder and learn an extension to that idea.
For example: If you know how to create a health system in unreal to take damage, then the next step would be to create pickup items that link to your health system and give you health.
Task 4.2
You will then find 3 tutorials on YouTube regarding your chosen mechanics (please pick up to date tutorials with your software in mind)
You need to embed these tutorials into your sites.
Analyse them so:
What is being covered in this tutorial
How does that help me and my skill/ idea development
You will also action them in the context of your idea
You will need to provide evidence of you actioning these tutorials so, 9 screen shots or a video recording with 3 annotations of your processes.
These annotations will cover:
What you did
Technical terms and tools of how you did this
Any errors faced and how you solved them.
Now that you have embarked on this practical research, I want you to stop and think for a second. What have we done here in terms of the research type?
Task 4.3
You will need to define the research types here, you will:
Write a short analysis of the primary and secondary elements of your practical research
is the research that you have done primary or secondary, or both
which parts are primary and which parts are secondary
what makes these parts primary or secondary
Lastly, consider how this type of skill based research will be useful to you in the future so, three scenarios:
How will this be useful for future units
How will this be useful for final major project (if you have never done a FMP just ask and I will summarise the general structure of it)
How will this be useful for you when you do end up in the industry
