Fantasy Games Critic

As a year we are going to run a Fantasy Games Critics League. This will be run in teams, based on the groupings below.

The league will work as follows:

1. DRAFT - On Monday 23rd January each team will pick an initial draft of 6 games. This will be done via Snake Picking ie. the order will be Team 1, Team 2, Team 3, Team 4, Team 5, Team 5, Team 4, Team 3, Team 2, Team 1, etc. The specific order will be chosen at random on the day. For games that can be picked see rules below.

2. BIDDING - After the draft more games can be added to your team list via a silent auction process. Each team will have a google chat set up with me where they can let me know what games they want to bid on. The bids will be calculated as follows:

   • Bidding periods run Saturday to Friday. Any game that gets bids during a week will be purchased that week.

   • Priority for the bids is first by time, then amount. If two teams both bid £10, the team that bids fist wins the game. If a team bids £10 for a game on Monday and another time bids £11 on Friday, the Friday team wins.

   • Each team starts with £100 to spend an must bid in whole numbers of pounds.

I will process bids on a weekly basis, but save up a few weeks before sorting them.

3. DROPPING GAMES - Games can be dropped ONLY IF they are confirmed to not be releasing in 2023. This means the publisher/developer must have confirmed either a new release date, release window or confirmed a delay. You must send confirmation via the group chat that the game has been delayed. If the game was bided on you will get the cash back to spend. If the game was part of the initial draft you will get another pick of a free game. You will choose the new game using the same process by bidding on it, if no one else bids you get it for free, if other teams bid it goes based on the rules for section 2. This is the only time you can bid £0.

4. SCORING - Once a game gets reviews I will check OpenCritic for the score. You will receive 1 point for each percentage above 70 they score and 2 points for as it goes above 90. A game getting less than 70 will result in a negative score & if a game does not get enough reviews to register on Open Critic it will get -5 points. I will try to check the score about 1 week after release to allow all reviews to come in. Any team can ask me to recheck a score once it has been entered, if more reviews change the score. If the game releases on different platforms the highest of the scores will be recorded.

5. FINAL RESULT - At the end of 2023 I will tally up the scores and award prizes to winning teams. I am aiming for the last lesson of 2023.
