Choosing My Idea
SIDE NOTE: I chose not to talk about sketch #2 with nor my peers or my teachers because sketches 1 and 3 were the obvious better choices, so in my time with each person, I decided to get feedback from only these 2 sketches as opposed to wasting time on one (sketch #2) I was not passionate about or liked.
MS.WONG'S FEEDBACK (Notes from our discussion):
She likes sketch #1 the best because of the graphic design element; she likes wrapping paper too and she has never seen a design like this one, making it stand out more
Sketch #3 is very house centered, also has too much going on
Variation of sketch #3 is too plain; very similar to most of the other ideas she has seen before with the division of the 4 houses
The Canadian maple leaf is not the best symbol to represent TMS (for sketch #3) thus minimizing how well the product can satisfy the client's needs
Even at the end of our discussion, she still really liked sketch #1; the only things she would add are more green to the triangles as opposed to the arrows so that Atlas is better represented and by changing the colours of the small line designs into different TMS colours as opposed to strictly the house colours (such as the navy blue, light grey, or green/yellow of the quilt), I would be able to further capture the TMS identity with my agenda cover
MS.BOWKER'S FEEDBACK:
The only feedback Ms.Bowker gave was to (in her words), "go with your client (Ms.Wong)'s feedback!"
PEER FEEDBACK:
I asked 2 of my peers (Diana and Lianah) to tell me about their opinions of my main 2 layout sketches (layout sketch #1 and sketch #3) as well as any feedback either of them had for the sketches. The video of our interviews is presented below:
Justification of Chosen Design
After careful consideration, I have chosen sketch #1. From Ms.Wong's and my peers' feedback, it is evident that this sketch is the most aesthetically appealing agenda cover; Ms.Wong told me that this was a design she had not seen before, meaning the sketch brings a new, original look to the TMS identity. My peers told me that they liked the use of different house colours and geometric shapes, meaning the design was popular among my peers as well. In reference to my design specifications, an important part of my client needs was that I display important parts of the TMS identity, which I have done this through the house colours, and that the cover takes away from the idea that there is division between teachers and students. Sketch #1 achieves this because both my peers and my teachers liked this sketch, thus uniting them through said design.
