When observing in-person sessions, this may occur using one-way mirrors, if available, or through the use of technology. If using one-way mirrors, be sure to use the darker room (one without exterior windows or the room with blackout shades) to OBSERVE from, if possible. Lights should not be on in the room where the team is observing from. You will need to have your own earbuds (the aux cable plug in type) to listen to the session.
If you are observing through the use of technology, you will need to open up the camera for the room session is occurring using the Peck-Hall-Cameras folder on your desktop. You must use Microsoft Edge (not Chrome, Mozilla, or others) in order for this to work. To login, the Username is "student", Password is "camera"
Please note that therapy sessions receive priority for rooms on the clinic floor. If all rooms are booked and space is needed for observation groups, please work with the Clinic Administrative Assistant to find additional space.
When observing a teletherapy session, the observation team will need to reserve a room in Peck Hall in order to observe. Observers must be located within Peck Hall when observing. Please use the Titanium calendar to schedule space. Once you are confirmed on an observation team, the therapist will share the Zoom link with you (or you can find it on the appointment in the Titanium schedule). Clients will be informed of your presence on the meeting, and the therapist will let you into the session. You will observe the session while your video and microphone are muted. After the client leaves, you will stay on the Zoom call to debrief the session with the therapist.
Reflecting Team practice is when a group of therapists observe a therapy session, then midway though have a discussion about what they noticed with clients and therapist facilitating the session, then the therapist and clients resume session integrating the teams reflections.
The reflecting team is an active part of therapy and treatment, and should participate on a consistent and on-going basis. The team may be behind the mirror, in the Zoom session, or in another therapy room, then share reflections directly to clients. Simply observing someone else do therapy does not constitute reflecting team practice. There must be an on-going and collaborative therapeutic effort, in which all team members have a shared responsibility for the treatment of a case, and a shared authority to make treatment decisions (subject to supervisor approval). Clients should understand they are being treated by a team rather than by an individual. All members of the team should participate in supervision on the case.
