All student therapists must check their SU email daily and have voicemail on their cell phone so that the Clinic Administrative Assistant can leave a message when necessary. Students are to reply to any communications from the department. All communication related to clinic operations (ex. case assignment, clinic closing) will be sent via SU email.
There is a general number (315-443-9405) and two digit extension for each student therapist. The two digits include a Group number and individual box number. This is the number clients will call to leave messages. DO NOT GIVE YOUR PERSONAL NUMBER OR EMAIL TO CLIENTS.
SU Voice mails can be set up to forward to your email address. To request, please send an email request to Telecommunications at voicemail@syr.edu. Please include your name, campus telephone number and SU email address in your request.
Your voice mail should say the following:
“Hello, you have reached FIRST NAME LAST NAME, at the Couple and Family Therapy Center. Please leave me your name, phone number and a brief message and I will call you back. Please note we may not respond to voicemails until the following business day. If this is a true emergency call Contact at 315-251-0600 or CPEP at 315-448-6555. If you need reach someone during business hours please call 315-443-3023. Thank you.”
(Note: CPEP is pronounced "see pep". Here is information about this emergency service)

Artificial intelligence (AI) tools are transforming the way we work. While they have the potential to enhance accuracy and efficiency of documentation, they present ethical & training issues that must be considered.
Ethically, the use of AI for documentation would require a BAA between the clinic and the AI-tool being utilized and an authorization of release signed by the client authorizing the therapist to input their confidential session data into the AI-tool. Our clinic does not have a BAA with any AI-tool, thus any use of AI for documentation would be unlawful and unethical.
Additionally, the use of AI limits student therapists opportunity to develop their clinical thinking and practice skills related to documentation and charting. Engaging in case documentation and note writing supports therapists in their professional growth and competence.
Students will not use any AI tools when completing case notes, treatment plans, or any documentation related to their clinical work in the Couple & Family Therapy Center.
Students will not use any AI tools for any purpose on computers in the clinic.
Students will not have Titanium open while using AI tools on computers in the computer lab.
