Week Four: Nov. 24th - 28th

Monday: Unit 2 Independent Reading: A Tribute to a Dog. Read as a large group and discuss the persuasive elements and the emotional appeals used. Do the Quiz as a large group. 

Tuesday and Wednesday: Thankful notes and "Who Stole the Pumpkin Pie" activity. 

Thursday - Friday: No School

Week Three: Nov. 17th - 21st

Monday: Journal and class discussion. Understanding argument writing, beyond subjective and objective: evidence with facts/opinions. Reading "Wild Animals aren't Pets". Check for Understanding. Fill out the reading handout as you read.

Tuesday: Journal - what kind of exotic pet you would want to have or see. Discuss arguments from yesterday. Vocabulary (HMH)

Wednesday: Quiz on this week's articles - large group. Creative activity: Create a flyer, using Google Slides or Drawings, or paper and pencil, for a Wild Animal Pet Store or Exotic Animal Zoo. 

Thursday - Friday: Completing and sharing our presentations. 

Week Two: Nov. 10th - 14th

Monday: No School 

Tuesday: Large group level up tutorial on theme. Short class, due to Americanism program. 

Wednesday: Practice on theme tutorial (from yesterday) and level-up tutorial on Point of View. Practice. 

Thursday: Point of View practice assignment: 1st or 3rd person, subjective and objective. Write your own and practice with a peer.

Friday: No School

Week One: Nov. 4th - 7th

Monday: Journal. Notes on poetry and figurative language. Practice identifying figurative language: personification and imagery. Review how to paraphrase - Level Up Tutorial.

 Tuesday: Get Ready: Animal Wisdom. Read the Poem, discuss. 

Wednesday: Get Ready: The Last Wolf. Read the poem and check for Understanding. Begin post-reading 

Thursday: Complete post-reading. Writable on HMH. Quiz.

Friday: Module Review: Capital Letter. Media Center - book time.

Quarter One 

Week Nine: Oct. 27th - 31st **End of the Quarter**

Monday: Get Ready, Vocabulary, and read "from Animal Snoops: The Wondrous World of Animal Spies. Check for Understanding. 

Tuesday: Post-reading for the article. Quiz 

Wednesday: Grammar Studio (HMH) Capital letters. 

Thursday - Friday: Spooky escape room.

Week Eight: Oct. 20th -24th

Monday: Unit 2 Intro - Stream to Start. Review the point of view in fiction and nonfiction. Reading "from Pax" and taking notes on the narrator and description used in the text. Check for Understanding. 

Tuesday: Post-reading handout and vocabulary. Reading time. 

Wednesday: Writable - from the boy's perspective. Quiz on "from Pax" (HMH). 

Thursday: Pre-reading quick start and Vocabulary for 'Zoo". Begin reading story. 

Friday: Finish story and post-reading assignment.

Week Seven: Oct. 13th - 17th

Monday: Unit One - Independent Reading choice. Choose 2 of the pieces to read: one quiz and one summary.

Tuesday: Writable - grammar time, Nouns.

Wednesday: Time to complete Unit One work, reading our novel selection.

Thursday and Friday: No School - MEA Break

Week Six: Oct. 6th - 10th

Monday: "Wired for Fear" Quick start discussion. Review the visual elements used in a video. Watch the video. Assign post-viewing handout.

Tuesday: Quick start and pre-reading for "Embarrassed? Blame Your Brain" informational text: review structure and vocab. Read the article.

Wednesday: Reading the short story, 'The Ravine.

Thursday: Quiz, Post-reading assignment on "The Ravine" and vocabulary on HMH. 

Friday: Writable - Advice Column. Grammar time - conjunctions and interjections. Level up tutorial (HMH)

Week Five: Sept. 29th - Oct. 3rd

Monday: Informative text practice: Fears and Phobias. Quick start discussion. Citing evidence and reviewing text features. Review the vocab and read the article. Keep t-notes on the article in notebooks.

Tuesday: Finishing the article, answering the check for understanding, and completing the post-reading assignment. 

Wednesday: Quiz. Writable.

Thursday: Grammar time - Sentence/Sentence Fragment (HMH). Time for missing work.

Friday: HMH Growth Measure assessment.

Week Four: Sept. 22nd - 26th *Fall Festival Week

Monday: Practice with Proper nouns. Video and worksheets.

Tuesday: No class - 6th-grade field trip.

Wednesday: Informative text practice: Fears and Phobias. Quick start discussion. Citing evidence and reviewing text features. Review the vocab and reading "Life Doesn't Frighten Me" poem. Check for understanding. Post-reading assignment.

Thursday: Watching video of Maya Angelou reading her poem, Inagural address in 1993. Complete the worksheett. HMH - tutorial on poetry,

Week Three: Sept. 15th - 19th

Monday: Unit One - Stream to Start video. Essential Question: How do you find courage in the face of fear? Vocabulary for Unit One: evident, factor, indicate, similar, specific. Define and practice sentences.  Quick start discussion p. 5.

Tuesday: Level Up Tutorial - How Setting Influences the Plot, Large Group Activity.Plot Diagram notes- including character development. AutoReading (Fastbridge)

Wednesday: Pre-reading vocabulary p. 6. Reading "from the Breadwinner" p. 7-15.

Thursday: Check for Understanding p. 15. Post-reading assignment. 

Friday: Fastbridge autoreading. 

Week Two: Sept. 8th - 12th

Monday - Tuesday: Practice with the Writing Process. Following the steps on our handout. Character profile. 

Wednesday: Sharing our characters. Writing a draft of the story.

Thursday: Final edits on story. 

Friday: Fastbridge assessment.

Week One: Sept. 1st - 5th

Monday: No School 

Tuesday: First day - activities. 

Wednesday: KWL charts about language arts. Handouts: What are words for? and The Branches of Communication. 

Thursday: Complete our "Word Wall" of impact. Reading strategies handout review. Practice with a nonfiction article. Handout  #4. 

Friday: Expectations and rules of the classroom. Establish routines for Reading days, Chromebooks, and journals.
