Pulju's Page

***ATTENTION**** If you are out of school, for ANY reason, your assignment will be marked MISSING. Once you turn it in, the "M" will be removed.  You have one day for each day you are abesnt, after that you can only earn half credit.  Be sure to check here for assignments and HMHEd for each assignment, unless otherwise noted (GC).

***If you come to class unprepared (missing your chormebook, textbooks, any material) you will be given a tardy. It is your JOB to come prepared to class on time.

***Cell phones are NOT allowed in the classroom. If your phone is out, even on your desk, it will be taken away till the end of the day. You will serve detention for a cell phone violation.

**At times in my courses, we will watch films. If you do not want your child to view any movies, etc., please let me know. You can check my lesson plans to see what we are doing each week. Thank you.

Course Requirements

In order to be eligible to receive credit for this class, students will be expected to fulfill the following obligations:

1) Attend class.

2) Participate in class discussions/activities, online or in person.

3) Complete all exams, quizzes, papers, and/or any assigned work at a passing level.

Classroom Expectations:

Students are expected to be in their seats and ready to learn when the bell rings; with phones in the pouches. This includes already having their Chromebook and beginning the login process. Students should go directly to our Google Classroom page/website to see the objectives for the day. Students will be taught how to use Google Apps for Education as this classroom is (mostly) paperless. Nearly all our assignments, projects, quizzes, tests, and class activities use the Chromebook, via Google applications, and our online Textbook HMHEd. Students are expected to gain an understanding and familiarity with these resources. Students also need to have a pencil. Every day, students are responsible for checking the board to see what they need for class and be at their desks when the bell rings. If they need to go back to their locker for class materials, they will receive a tardy.

Behavior Expectations

I expect students to come to class prepared to learn and participate. I cannot make you learn, but I can require you to not interfere with your peers' learning. I will not tolerate any behavior that inhibits others from learning. Be respectful of yourself, your peers, me, and the school materials we use in class. If you cause disruption you will be removed from class and appropriate measures will be taken, following the Sebeka School discipline policy.

Materials

Students use Chromebooks daily for assignments, quizzes, reading, and research. Each class has a textbook and all junior high students should have a novel with them every day for class. Students are responsible for their textbooks and Chromebooks. These textbooks are relatively new. Any damages will be assessed at the end of the year. Students will be required to have a pencil, a folder, and a notebook for class. Cell Phones are not to be on during class, students will "check" them in their assigned pouch each day. If a student chooses to not place their cell phone in the pocket, and they take it out or it goes "off", I will take their phone till the end of the class period, and they will have 30 minutes of detention time. 2nd time it occurs - they will have an hour of detention and their phone will be in the office till the end of the day. 3rd offense - the student will have 1.5 hours of detention and a parent will have to come into the school to get their child's phone.

Grading

Your grade in this class is determined by your percentage of the total points offered. All assignments are weighted the same. Therefore, a 50-point presentation is worth the same as a 50-point assessment. The grading scale is as follows: A=90-100, B=80-89%, C=70-79%, D=60-69%. Grades are rounded up and plus and minus grades are possible; i.e., 89.5% = A-. Please check the school's Infinite Campus Grading Portal to stay informed of your current grade. Late work will result in a reduction of points.

**All assignments are due the day after they are assigned, unless Mrs. Pulju or a rubric states otherwise. Half-credit will be given for late assignments.

Absences/Tardies

If you are absent, you are responsible to get your work. If you know you will be gone, it is best to get your work done prior to the absence. You can email or check this website for lesson plans and assignments. I reserve the right to refuse credit on missed assignments if your absence is unexcused. I will inform students in advance if they are in danger of receiving the credit penalty. Students are expected to get the notes and assignments they missed. It is the responsibility of the student to remain current in class. A student is considered tardy if they are not in their seat at the bell or have come to class without their book/materials.

***Please check our Google Classroom page from a device when you are home, or email me so you are not so far behind upon your return.

***If you know you are going to be absent for a school-related activity it is your responsibility to get your assignments PRIOR to being absent.
