Monday: "The Raven" prep discussion on the Gallery Walk. Vocabulary sketch notes. Pre-reading "The Raven". Who is Edgar Allen Poe - worksheet.
Tuesday: "The Raven" - reading poem. Post-reading discussion and Simpson's version of the poem. Highlight/annotate alliteration, allusion, and other figurative language elements in the poem - feather activity
Wednesday:. Slideshow - who said it? Poe or Taylor Swift - write your answers on the document. *End of 3rd quarter - any missing work must be turned in by Friday. This was the last assignment in the Gradebook for the quarter.

Week Eight: March 9th - 13th
Monday: Introduction of "Walden" by Henry David Thoreau. Read. SOAPS activity. Post-reading assignment.
Tuesday: Simplicity Presentation 1 . Walden post-reading questions and Letter of advice. Simplicity Presentation 2. Read the article "But Will it Make You Happy?" Discussion and reflection.
Wednesday: Individuality lesson - Transcendentalism. Activity with Jim Carrey's commencement speech.
Thursday: Finish the speech and do the assignment. Poe websearch (if time allows)
Friday: Introduction to Romanticism, slides and discussion. Poe Gallery Walk.
Week Seven: March 2nd - 6th
Monday: Emily Dickinson - Get Ready, read poems, and review figurative language—post-reading handout.
Tuesday: Introduction to Transcendentalism, slides - Quote Gallery walk. Take notes on the various quotes around the room. Discuss when we are done - this is a silent activity. Discussing our notes and begin the lesson/slide presentation.
Wednesday: Continue slide presentation and discussion about Transcendentalism. Personality quiz - discuss. Sketch Notes Video.
Thursday: Simplicity - notes/presentation.
Friday: No Class - 10th grade at Career Fair.
Week Six: February 23rd - 27th
Monday: Reading the poem "Democracy" by Langston Hughes and post-reading assignment (handout). Writable - high 5.
Tuesday: Go through slides from last week - Benjamin Franklin's aphorisms. Unit 3 opener: Stream to Start video and discussion around the Unit's Essential Questions:
In what ways do we seek to remain true to ourselves?
How do we relate to the world around us?
What do we secretly fear?
When should we stop and reflect on our lives?

Wednesday: Large group: Background information on Walt Whitman. Read the poems from Song of Myself, Walt Whitman.

Monday and Tuesday: Finishing up "Hamilton" and discussing the film. Post-viewing assignment on plot and figurative language used to tell a story.
Wednesday: No Class - Career week field trip.
Thursday: No Class - Career Week speakers.
Week Three: February 2nd - 6th
Monday: Unit Two Introduction - Stream to start. Review Essential Questions:
What does oppression look like?
How do we gain our freedom?
How can we share power and build alliances?
How do we transform our lives?
Read the Introduction and review the timeline - check for Understanding and Academic Vocabulary.
Tuesday: “The Declaration of Independence” - Analyzing argumentative text, Genre - public document. Analyze text structure, syntax, and counterarguments. Understanding Critical Vocabulary. Assignment - during reading.
Wednesday: Time to finish reading and complete the assignment, including the post-reading portion of the handout. Hamilton - PBS video and questions.
Thursday -Friday: Watching "Hamilton."
Week Two: January 26th - 30th
Monday: Quick Start p. 47 - large brainstorm. What do we value most? Review the concept of the author's voice and paraphrasing. Introduction to Anne Bradstreet: watch the video. Level Up tutorial and practice (HMH) - Figurative Language and Elements of Poetry.
Tuesday: Reading poem "Here Follow Some Verses Upon the Burning of Our House, July 10th, 1666". Discuss and Check for Understanding. Assignment on the poem, handout. Discussion on this poem and "Nothing Gold Can Stay" - from "The Outsiders" book and 7th grade.
Wednesday: Reading "To My Dear and Loving Husband" - Independent Reading (HMH) and assignment.
Thursday: Write your own poem, using figurative language. Quiz (HMH) on poems.
Friday: Growth Measure assessment.
Week One: January 19th - 23rd
Tuesday: Review course expectations, classroom policies, and procedures, get textbooks, and discuss expectations. Join Google Classroom, bookmark HMH, login refresh. Group activity.
Wednesday: Unit One opener, background, stream to start video, vocabulary.
Thursday: Read the Unit Opener, take the quiz, and participate in the discussion.
Friday: Reading "The World on a Turtle's Back". Check for Understanding and post-reading handout. Take the quiz as a group.
