Monday and Tuesday: Working on final projects. 

Wednesday: Sharing our projects with peers. 

Thursday - Friday: Watching "A Christmas Carol".

Week Six: Dec. 8th - 12th

Monday - Wednesday: Reading Act II. 

Thursday: Act II quiz and post-reading assignments. 

Friday: Projects for "Scrooge and Marley".

Week Five: Dec. 1st - 5th

Monday: Escape room - from turkey day! 

Tuesday: Start "Marley and Scrooge" play. Reading Act I. Vocabulary terms. 

Wednesday: Reading Act II.

Thursday: Post-reading Act I quiz and assignments. 

Friday: Start reading Act II.

Week Four: Nov. 24th - 28th

Monday: SSR. Elements of drama presentation/lesson. Background information for "Scrooge and Marley".  

Tuesday: The Case of the Missing Pumkin Pie - use deductive reasoning and inferences to solve the Thanksgiving crime! 

Wednesday: Thanksgiving Escape Room. **E-learning - please check our Google Classroom page if you can.

Thursday - Friday: No school.

Week Three: Nov. 17th - 21st

Monday: Journal. Get Ready "Allied Green" - theme and vocabulary. Practice lesson - Level Up tutorial. Read "Allied with Green", check for Understanding. Post-reading assignment and vocabulary: bottom portion (HMH). 

Tuesday: SSR. Sentence practice - Module 1 (GC) and practice worksheet. Time to complete yesterday's assignment.

Wednesday: Journal. Correct grammar worksheet. Review Run Ons, HMH and do Run on worksheet. 

Thursday:  SSR. Get Ready, Ode to Enchanted Light, and Sleeping in the Forest. Read "Ode to Enchanted Light". Check for Understanding. Post-reading assignment and writing an ode.

Friday: Collaborate and compare the poems. Use any extra time to complete any work from this week.

Week Two: Nov. 10th - 14th

Monday: No School 

Tuesday:  Journal #3. Get Ready, "Mississippi Solo" - elements of a memoir, critical vocabulary review. Begin reading the memoir and complete the handout as we progress through it. Check for Understanding.  

Wednesday: Get Ready, "The Drought" - form of poetry: sonnet. Rhyme scheme elements. Read the poem. Check for Understanding. Post-reading questions and writing a sonnet (Writable)

Thursday: Journal #4. Time for post-reading questions and writing our poems. 

Friday: No School

Week One: Nov. 3rd - 7th

Monday:  Unit 3, Inspired by Nature, Unit opener. Stream to start video. Academic vocabulary practice - define and create sentences. Writable assignment: Quick Write Descriptive Paragraph. Get Ready -Understanding arguments: objective and subjective point of view, critical vocabulary. 

Tuesday: Journal #1. Reading the article, "Never Retreat", annotate. 

Wednesday: SSR. Finish the article. Check for Understanding. Post-reading assignment.

Thursday: Journal #2. Vocab and quiz on "Never Retreat. 

Friday: Post-reading assignment and Writable: Module pretest - the Sentence Time to complete yesterday's work. 

Quarter One

Week Nine: Oct. 27th - Oct. 31st **END OF THE QUARTER **

Monday: Prewriting for Spooky story. Setting and character development. 

Tuesday - Thursday: Writing a short "spooky" story. *Thursday - pepfest, so no class.

Friday: Finishing story (if needed) and spooky podcast option.

Week Eight: Oct. 20th - 24th

Monday: Get Ready "Two Legs or One". Elements of Folk Tales. Read tale. Check for Understanding.  Post-reading assignment. Writable - Informational Brochure

Tuesday: NoRedInk - Pronoun assignment. 

Wednesday: Unit 2 Independent Reading assignment "Too Cool" - read on HMH and take online quiz. 

Thursday: Writable: Spooky Stories - 2 assignments.

Friday: Spooky story - pre-writing.

Week Seven: Oct. 13th - 17th

Monday: Time to complete "Heartbeat" worksheet. Quiz on "Heartbeat" on HMH.

Tuesday: Get Ready: "The Camera Does Lie" - author's purpose and vocabulary introduction. Read article and annotate in large group. Check for Understanding.

Wednesday: Post-reading assignment. Finding hoax video - plan slide presentation to share with the class.

Thursday - Friday: No School, MEA Break

Week Six: Oct. 6th - 10th

Monday: Author's Purpose practice - main point. Vocabulary and language convention practice. Collaborate and compare fiction and articles - small groups. 

Tuesday: Unit One: Independent Reading options and quiz on HMH.

Wednesday: Writable - Informational Quick Write. 

Thursday: Unit 2 Opener. Get Ready: "Heartbeat". Character traits vs character motivations. External and internal conflict. Review Critical Vocabulary. Start reading "Heartbeat". 

Friday: Finsih reading "Heartbeat", post-reading worksheet.

Week Five: Sept. 29th - Oct. 3rd

Monday: Characterization and Conflict review. Get Ready and Vocabulary preview for "Thank you, Ma'm". Language conventions - capitalization. Read the story and stop to answer in-text questions, large group. Check for Understanding. 

Tuesday: Post-reading assignment. Vocabulary, part 1. Language Conventions - capitalization. 

Wednesday: Compare across genres - discuss features. Read article: 'A Police Stop Changed This Teenager's Life" - chronological order and pre-reading vocabulary practice. Reading article.  Check for Understanding. Post-reading assignment (handout). 

Thursday: NoRedInk - Capitalization Time to complete yesterday's assignment. Vocabulary (HMH)

Friday: Quizlet live.

Week Four: Sept. 22nd - 26th *Fall Festival week

Monday: Completing our own "myths" - print off, draw a picture, and turn in the basket. Reading quarter books when done. **Powder Puff VB activity

Tuesday: Finishing myths - turn in. Get Ready for "Women in Aviation" large group - go over the Essential questions. 

Wednesday: Reading "Women in Aviation" online: making annotations and doing Check for Understanding.  

Thursday: Post reading Questions (GC) and Vocabulary (HMH). Language Conventions,Verb Tense. 

Friday: Quiz on "Women in Aviation" NRI - verb tense.

Week Three: Sept. 15th - 19th

Monday: Get Ready - "The Flight of Icarus" Quick Start Discussion. Myth structure - theme, etc. Review Critical Vocabulary. Reading "The Flight of Icarus", and do the check for understanding. 

Tuesday:  Writable assignment - Explain the moral, thesis. Icarus's Flight" p. 37. Quick start discussion.

Wednesday: Poetry elements: notes. Reading "Icarus's Flight". Check for Understanding. Poetry elements: notes. Reading "Icarus's Flight". Post-reading handout.

Thursday: Fastrbridge assessment. Writing our own Myth! Write a short explanation of the myth as to "why something is the way it is".

Week Two: Sept. 8th - 12th

Monday: Reading "Rogue Wave". 

Tuesday: "Rogue Wave" worksheet. Complete the plot diagram as a class. 

Tuesday: Quiz on "Rogue Wave" HMH. Writable - getting signed in. Quick Write Unit One. 

Thursday: Time to complete Writable. Media Center - getting reading books for the quarter. 

Friday: Set up NoRedInk - initial survey/topics.Reading time. Reading survey sheet. Go over reading logs, we will keep in our folder.

Week One: September 1st - 5th

Monday: No School

Tuesday: Welcome! Get to know you activities and classroom procedures. Catch and share!

Wednesday: Pulju's page, Google Classroom and HMHEd/Writable sign in. Bookmarks and Stream to Start - Unit One.
