Week Eight: Oct. 26th - 30th

Monday: Get Ready "Two Legs or One".  Review the elements of Folk Tales. Read the tale. Check for Understanding.  Post-reading assignment. Writable - Informational Brochure

Tuesday: NoRedInk - Pronoun assignment. 

Wednesday: Unit 2 Independent Reading assignment "Too Cool" - read on HMH and take an online quiz. 

Thursday: Writable: Spooky Stories - 2 assignments.

Friday: Spooky story - pre-writing.

Week Seven: Oct. 19th - 23rd

Monday: Unit 2 Opener. Get Ready: "Heartbeat". Character traits vs. character motivations. External and internal conflict. Review Critical Vocabulary. Start reading "Heartbeat". 

Tuesday: Finish reading "Heartbeat"; post-reading worksheet. 

Wednesday: Quiz on "Heartbeat" on HMH. Get Ready: "The Camera Does Lie" - author's purpose and vocabulary introduction. Read article and annotate in large group. Check for Understanding.

Thursday: Get Ready: "The Camera Does Lie" - author's purpose and vocabulary introduction. Read article and annotate in large group. Check for Understanding. Post-reading assignment. Finding hoax video - plan slide presentation to share with the class.

Friday: Fast Five writing. Tier II vocabulary practice.

Week Six: Oct. 12th -16th

Monday: Author's Purpose practice - main point. Vocabulary and language convention practice. Collaborate and compare fiction and articles - small groups. 

Tuesday: Capti testing. Finish the assignments from yesterday if there is time.

Wednesday: Capti testing. Finish quiz and post-reading from Monday.

Thursday - Friday: No School, MEA Break

Week Five: Oct. 5th - 9th *Fall Festival Week

Monday: Characterization and Conflict review. Get Ready and Vocabulary preview for "Thank you, Ma'm". Language conventions - capitalization. Read the story and stop to answer in-text questions, large group. Check for Understanding. 

Tuesday: Post-reading assignment (handout). Vocabulary, parts 1 and 3, after suffix lesson. Language Conventions - capitalization. 

Wednesday: *3rd hour - obstacle course. Level Up Tutorial - Characterization. Reading time fo 2nd hour.

Thursday: Compare across genres - discuss features. Read article: 'A Police Stop Changed This Teenager's Life" - chronological order and pre-reading vocabulary practice. Reading the article.  Check for Understanding. Post-reading assignment (handout). 

Friday: Fast Five writing. Friday Focus work - Boggle with syllables, morphology, brain teasers.

Week Four: Sept. 28th - Oct. 2nd

Monday: Final day to work on myth. Illustrations, printed myths - all turned in. 

Tuesday: Get Ready for "Women in Aviation" large group - go over the Essential questions. Begin to read "Women in Aviation" online: make annotations. 

Wednesday: Finish reading, making sure we cite evidence for purpose. Post-reading questions (handout). 

Thursday: Vocabulary (HMH). Language Conventions, Verb Tense (HMH). Quiz on "Women in Aviation". Media Center for books.

Friday: Fast five writing! Fastbridge assessment. 

Week Three: Sept. 21st - 25th

Monday: Get Ready - "The Flight of Icarus" Quick Start Discussion. Myth structure - theme, etc. Review Critical Vocabulary. Read "The Flight of Icarus" and do the check for understanding. 

Tuesday:  Post-reading assignment (worksheet) and vocabulary (HMH).

Wednesday: "Icarus's Flight," p. 37. Quick start discussion. Poetry elements: notes. Reading "Icarus's Flight". Check for Understanding. Post-reading handout.

Thursday: Writing our own Myth! Write a short explanation of the myth as to "why something is the way it is". Completing our own "myths" - print off, draw a picture, and turn in the basket. Reading quarter books when done.

Friday: Working on our myth. Create a picture that goes with your myth.

Week Two: Sept. 14th - 18th

Monday: Note-taking - expectations, pace, and PLOT diagram notes.  

Tuesday: Begin reading "Rogue Wave" p. 7. Students use sticky notes/notebook to write notes: setting, conflict, and tension created as we read the story. 

Wednesday: Post-reading handout. Quiz on "Rogue Wave". 

Thursday: Vocabulary for "Rogue Wave" GC.

Friday: Time to complete this week's work. Setting up our Journals and getting books from the media center to read. Friday focus - go over expectations. Mr. Beast word activity.

Week One: Sept. 7th - 11th

Monday: No School 

Tuesday: NO Class - due to all school activities 

Wednesday: Classroom introduction, pencil pledge, and handwriting practice. 

Thursday: Handwriting self-assessment and reflection handout, discussion and expectations for the school year and written assignments. 

Friday: The Legibility Challenge (handout) and spelling challenge.
