Statement from Chef Blaylock
Statement from Chef Blaylock
Hello class. I hope this message finds you well.
I am healing up and getting ready to return in a few short weeks. I have missed working with you all and realize it is not easy for everyone to deal with a change to routine. No doubt about it, this is a disruption to the optimum learning environment for students and double the work for Chef Erin & Ms. Emily. Also, it is what it is.
Let's Reset
I am very disappointed to hear that some of you have not been showing respect to my co-instructors during my absence. By extent you are showing me disrespect. I don't know where the idea that I am a higher authority than Chef Erin came from. If you subscribe to this idea, please reset your thinking now, as it is incorrect. We are co-teachers that share program responsibilities and have an equal voice in your academic and performance evaluations. I need a higher level of respect to be demonstrated for Chef Erin and Ms. Emily in my absence and upon my return. As first and second-year students, you are expected to lead by example and set the tone for the entire class. This behavior does not reflect the leadership and professionalism we have worked so hard to build.
If you have demonstrated disrespect for your instructors, please take a moment to reflect and change the situation into something more constructive and positive.
I do not want to return and have to enforce consequences to those that cannot improve the above behavior, but please understand that I will if this behavior does not change immediately. Consequences may include bans from rotation leadership and events. Respect and teamwork are non-negotiable in this program and in the culinary industry.
Positive Look Forward
I believe in your ability to rise to the occasion and demonstrate the maturity and leadership I know you are capable of. Let’s make sure that when I return, I am proud of the progress you’ve made and the example you’ve set for others.
Chef Erin, Ms.Emily and Myself will continue meet everyday to plan and discuss each day to ensure that we are sticking to the calendar of instruction.
I look forward to seeing everyone on December 1st.
Take Care
