Communication for Savannah Families
Thank you to all who attended our spaghetti dinner and grandparents night. We had a GREAT time hanging with everyone together (and seeing some former students!!!) We are also glad everyone made it home safely after that crazy weather. Thank you to the PTA volunteers who bravely stayed at the school through the storm for event cleanup.
September 11 - Curriculum Night 6-7 PM
September 22 - No School/ Teacher Work Day
Unlock the love of learning
Lets explore how we can learn and grow together this year at Savannah's curriculum night! Each grade will host two sessions starting at 6:00pm so you can attend sessions for multiple children in different grade levels. Information from the night will be shared with parents by teachers if you are unable to attend. We look forward to seeing you there.
As the school counselor, I support the students, staff and community of Savannah in these ways:
● Developing social and emotional skills
● Checking in about emotions, challenges, or concerns
● Aid with coping strategies and managing stress
● Building friendship and conflict-resolution skills
● Participating in short-term individual or group sessions on school-related topics*
*Parents/guardians will be notified and asked for additional consent if group counseling is recommended.
Is our school counselor a therapist?
No. The school-based supports I provide are not therapy and do not include psychological diagnosis, evaluation, or treatment. If such services are needed, information about appropriate community resources will be made available.
As your school counselor, I am committed to supporting your child’s academic success and overall well-being. As part of the comprehensive school counseling and support services program, which aligns with the Texas Education Code (TEC §33.005), the Texas Model for Comprehensive School Counseling Programs, and SB 12 (2025), it is now required for a parent or guardian permission for students to receive the same counseling and social services support we've always provided.
Without your partnership and consent, I cannot provide the social/emotional support your child may need during a stressful, or frustrating day. If you have not had a chance to sign the parental consent form, click here
If you have questions or would like to meet with me, please don’t hesitate to reach out. My email is jrunion@dentonisd.org or there is more information on the SES Counselor's website
Thank you for allowing me to partner with you to support your child’s academic and emotional success!
Here is what Ms. Jarosz is doing with her grant money:
Based on student-led research for an HMH Project conducted in class, a group of my students discovered that a significant amount of food waste is generated daily from our school cafeteria—waste that currently ends up in landfills. In the United States, school cafeterias waste an estimated 530,000 tons of food each year. This translates to about 39 pounds of food waste and 19.4 cartons of milk waste per student annually. This waste is valued at approximately $1.7 billion. I wanted the opportunity to enable 3 - 5th grade students to be innovative in reducing our carbon footprint. This finding has inspired me to create a student-led club focused on sustainability, where we can compost cafeteria scraps, collect rainwater, and use both to support a school wildflower garden. My goal is to repurpose our waste into valuable resources, reduce landfill contributions, and minimize our school’s carbon footprint while educating peers about environmental responsibility.
Denton ISD will host a series of in-person community information sessions on Proposition A, which will appear on the ballot in the November 4 election. Each session will provide an overview of the proposition and its potential impact on our district.
You are invited to attend any of the following sessions:
*All sessions will be held in the Cafeteria/Commons at each high school.
Proposition A Information Sessions are open to all parents, guardians, staff, and community members. Attendance is not limited to the high school attendance zone, and you do not need to have a child enrolled in Denton ISD to participate.
District leaders will share factual information about Proposition A, answer questions, and provide clear details about what it means for our students, staff, and taxpayers.
For more details, please visit www.dentonisd.org/PropA.
Please Read:
All guests who have passed a volunteer background check are welcome to visit their kids for lunch. If you are eating lunch with us, you and your student are welcome to sit at the guest tables just outside the cafeteria doors. The background check form is linked below. Remember this must be renewed each year.
Don't Forget to Sign Up:
Our goal is for 100% of Savannah families to complete the application—even if you think you won’t qualify. Why? Because the more families who apply, the better chance we have of qualifying for free meals for all students during the 2025–2026 school year! Don't forget you must reapply each year!
Apply here or using the button below.
It will prompt you to sign up for a SchoolCafe account first (or sign in if you already have an account from last year), then you click on the benefits link within.
A NOTE ON BIRTHDAYS:
We are happy to celebrate your child's birthday at school. We allow parents to send birthday trinkets for their child's class if they want, however, WE DO NOT ALLOW BIRTHDAY TREATS or FOODS. Cupcakes/cake/candy etc. compete with healthy meals and snacks and may affect students with food allergies. We will not serve them.

We are so excited to introduce Beanstack as a motivational tool for our readers! Please read the family letter to the left so you can help your student log their reading at home. And stay tuned to future Shout Outs for updates on our Beanstack leaderboard.
