Your students have nearly completed their first nine weeks of the school year. We are so proud of their hard work!
We are currently finishing our end of nine week assessments. Don't forget that you can check your students' report cards on October 17th using the Home Access Center. CLICK HERE for more details.
Reminder: No school on Monday, October 13th and Tuesday, October 14th.
Here are TWO ways that you can support your learner's journey throughout the year:
Encourage productive struggle: Productive struggle is the challenging process of a learner actively working through a difficult problem or concept that is just beyond their current understanding, rather than being given the answer or giving up. This process builds perseverance, develops critical thinking, fosters deeper understanding, and promotes a growth. Encourage your learner to take risks and learn from mistakes in a safe, supportive environment.
Encourage iReady sessions at home: Your student has a CUSTOMIZED learning pathway ready to go for both Reading and Math. You can support your student by setting aside time for iReady engagement and preparing a quiet environment for your student to work. iReady is available on the Denton ISD Single Sign-On portal. Here is more information in this resource.
October 13-14 - School Holiday

Denton ISD values parent/guardian partnership in learning. We support parents/guardians as the primary educators of their children. As a parent/guardian, you have the right to preview all education material. If you would like to request that your child NOT attend one of the above presentations, please contact Jenn Runion (School Counselor) at jrunion@dentonisd.org.

If you have questions or would like to meet with me, please don’t hesitate to reach out. My email is jrunion@dentonisd.org or there is more information on the SES Counselor's website
Thank you for allowing me to partner with you to support your child’s academic and emotional success!
Savannah will be celebrating Red Ribbon/Good Character Week at the end of October! All month long we will be talking about optimistic thinking and making good choices. Have a look at the dress up days and start preparing those Book Character costumes!
For the Thursday (Rainbow) dress up day, each grade level will wear designated colors to create a SES rainbow.
PK/Kindergarten: Red
1stGrade: Green
2ndGrade: Purple
3rdGrade: Blue
4thGrade: Orange
5thGrade: Yellow
*Before the end of the day, we will all meet and take a Savannah Elementary rainbow picture.
Denton ISD will host a series of in-person community information sessions on Proposition A, which will appear on the ballot in the November 4 election. Each session will provide an overview of the proposition and its potential impact on our district.
You are invited to attend any of the following sessions:
Wednesday, October 15, 2025 – Guyer High School | 6:30–7:30 PM
*All sessions will be held in the Cafeteria/Commons at each high school.
Proposition A Information Sessions are open to all parents, guardians, staff, and community members. Attendance is not limited to the high school attendance zone, and you do not need to have a child enrolled in Denton ISD to participate.
District leaders will share factual information about Proposition A, answer questions, and provide clear details about what it means for our students, staff, and taxpayers.
For more details, please visit www.dentonisd.org/PropA.
A NOTE ON BIRTHDAYS:
We are happy to celebrate your child's birthday at school. We allow parents to send birthday trinkets for their child's class if they want, however, WE DO NOT ALLOW BIRTHDAY TREATS or FOODS. Cupcakes/cake/candy etc. compete with healthy meals and snacks and may affect students with food allergies. We will not serve them.
Special Areas rotations will shift beginning October 15th for the 2nd Nine Weeks.
Be sure to know what day your Gators have P.E. and when they need their Library books! (Though Mrs. Holt recommends they have their books at school EVERY day!)
We are needing donations of every day items you have at home! Items can be sent in any time from now until MARCH!
Congratulations to our September Beanstack Challenge winners!
Have you and your student logged into Beanstack yet to start keeping track of reading at home?
Log your reading every day to help our school reach our ultimate reading goals. A new challenge will be starting soon!
The Science NHS students are excited to host a Science Night at Braswell High School on Wednesday, October 15 from 6-8pm in our Commons area. Please park in the front parking lot and come join us for science fun & learn about our Science Fair we will hold in spring for any/all Denton ISD students. TWU, UNT, CoServ and many BHS organizations will be present with fun science activities for students of all ages. Please see the attached flyer for details. We hope that you encourage all your students to come out for a fun night of science!
Don't Forget to Sign Up:
Our goal is for 100% of Savannah families to complete the application—even if you think you won’t qualify. Why? Because the more families who apply, the better chance we have of qualifying for free meals for all students during the 2025–2026 school year! Don't forget you must reapply each year!
Apply here or using the button below.
It will prompt you to sign up for a SchoolCafe account first (or sign in if you already have an account from last year), then you click on the benefits link within.
The 2023 School Report Cards (SRCs) are now posted on the TEA School Report Card webpage as a result of the release of the Final 2023 Accountability Ratings on August 19, 2025. The 2023 ratings release was delayed due to legal proceedings that previously prevented its release.
Each year, the Texas Education Agency (TEA) publishes accountability reports that provide families and communities with important insights into student achievement and campus performance. The Federal Campus Report Card and the Texas Academic Performance Report (TAPR) for 2023 are now available for you to review. These reports highlight student performance on the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) as well as additional state and federal accountability measures.
Please note: The 2024 report was distributed last January, and this notice provides the 2023 report as part of the annual reporting process.
At Denton ISD, we believe strong schools are built on trust, partnership, and collaboration with our families. Sharing these reports reflects our commitment to keep you informed about both our successes and areas where we continue to grow. This effort is directly tied to our mission of empowering lifelong learners who will positively impact their local and global community.
You may access the report using the link below:
Our goal in sharing this report is to keep you well-informed and engaged as we work together to provide the best learning environment for every student. If you have any questions about these reports or would like assistance in understanding them, please feel free to contact Mrs. Hawkins at 972-347-7400.
