Important Notice Regarding State-Mandated Student Health Screenings:
Our school continues to conduct state-mandated health screenings for students in required grade levels. These screenings include vision, hearing, spinal (scoliosis), and acanthosis nigricans and are completed in accordance with Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) guidelines. When appropriate, a vision photo screener may be used, including for students with disabilities who may not respond well to other traditional screening methods.
Throughout the fall semester, students were screened based on parent opt-in consent forms. Updated guidance has clarified that moving forward, these screenings are now conducted on an opt-out basis. We value our ongoing partnership with families and remain committed to keeping parents informed and involved in their child’s health.
What this means for families:
· No action is needed if you would like your child to participate in the screenings.
· If you do not want your child to be screened, please contact your campus nurse, Rebecca Manaska at rmanaska@dentonisd.org to opt out by February 1st.
· If you have already opted out, no further action is needed.
· Screenings on campus will resume February 2nd.
If your child does not pass a screening, you will be notified by email through SNAP Health Center, our secure student health system. If you have any questions or need additional information or resources, please contact your campus nurse, Rebecca Manaska at rmanaska@dentonisd.org
Copies of the Federal Campus Report Card and the Texas Academic Performance Report (TAPR) are published annually by the Texas Education Agency. These documents are available on our school webpage and can be accessed by visiting the links below. These reports provide information regarding student performance on the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) as well as additional state and federal accountability information. If you have questions regarding these documents, please contact me at ahawkins@dentonisd.org.
A NOTE ON BIRTHDAYS:
We are happy to celebrate your child's birthday at school. We allow parents to send birthday trinkets for their child's class if they want, however, WE DO NOT ALLOW BIRTHDAY TREATS or FOODS. Cupcakes/cake/candy etc. compete with healthy meals and snacks and may affect students with food allergies. We will not serve them.
Special Areas rotations will shift beginning January 6th for the 3rd Nine Weeks.
Be sure to know what day your Gators have P.E. and when they need their Library books! (Though Mrs. Holt recommends they have their books at school EVERY day!)
We are needing donations of every day items you have at home! Items can be sent in any time from now until MARCH!
Don't Forget to Sign Up:
Our goal is for 100% of Savannah families to complete the application—even if you think you won’t qualify. Why? Because the more families who apply, the better chance we have of qualifying for free meals for all students during the 2025–2026 school year! Don't forget you must reapply each year!
Apply here or using the button below.
It will prompt you to sign up for a SchoolCafe account first (or sign in if you already have an account from last year), then you click on the benefits link within.
