Day 2
6/27/2025
13:00 - 14:00
AI in Undergraduate Research
As AI tools become more integrated into academic life, undergraduate students are increasingly using them for research tasks such as literature reviews, idea generation, and writing support. However, this trend has raised concerns around academic misconduct, overreliance on AI, and a lack of critical evaluation. Most students have not been trained to assess the appropriateness or ethical implications of using AI in academic contexts.
Learning Objectives:
Participants will:
1. Identify common challenges students face when using AI tools in academic research.
2. Understand the goals and structure of a design-based AI literacy intervention.
3. Explore sample activities and tool guidelines to promote critical and ethical AI use.
4. Discuss strategies for integrating AI literacy into academic and research skills teaching.
Expected Outcomes:
By the end of the workshop, participants will gain:
• Insight into students’ evolving research practices with AI.
• Practical classroom strategies for teaching AI literacy.
• Resources and activity ideas to support ethical AI use.
• A framework for evaluating the impact of such interventions on student learning and behaviour.
