Plenary: Institutionalizing AI
Artificial intelligence is quickly spreading through higher education, but its adoption is often experimental and inconsistent. Educators and students frequently use AI tools independently, leading to issues such as data privacy risks, unclear plagiarism policies, uneven use of AI detection tools, and inadequate student orientation.
This plenary highlights the urgent need for a coherent, ethical, and structured framework for integrating AI into higher education. It will use practical examples to illustrate the risks of current informal approaches and emphasize the importance of strategic leadership, institutional collaboration, and clear policies. Participants will receive practical recommendations for creating comprehensive AI guidelines, maintaining academic integrity, and promoting responsible innovation. They will gain insights into current gaps, understand the importance of standardization, and envision ways for universities to shift from reactive AI use toward strategic integration, ensuring that AI supports education effectively.
