¨ Dad, do I have a baseball game today?¨
¨ Let me check you schedule, Yes you do son.¨
I got my uniform out of the dryer and put it on and got my baseball stuff together. My dad was off of work that day so we went to the field early to get some extra swing in. We got into the cage and my swing was feeling really good. This might be the day I hit my first home run. I was hitting everything in the cages. My team starts getting to the field and I take another round of batting practice. My swing is still feeling amazing.
After, my friend Eric and I took our round of batting practice, we went to warm up throwing and our coach told us that he was starting pitcher for today's game so he had to warm up well. We started warming up and our catcher did not show up so I had to be the catcher for today's game and I hate catching. I am a third baseman and I was really angry about that. So we went to the bullpen and we were working on his pitches.
We went back to the dugout and we were looking at the lineup and I was batting third and my boy Eric was batting fourth. When we bat back to back, we bring all the runs in. We were the away team so we were batting first. The lead off batter walked, the two hole hitter struck out, then I was up to bat. The first pitch of the at bat was a ball and the second pitch was a strike but
I wasn't really feeling that pitch so the count was 1-1. Then BOOM I hit a base hit to left field, it wasn't a home run yet but I got on base. Then it was my bro Eric's turn to hit. He struck out which made it 2 outs with a man on 1 and 3. Then the 5 hole hitter came up to bat he grounded out to short now the home team was hitting.
Eric and I went out. I was catching, he was pitching and our chemistry was really good. In the first inning I was calling great pitches and he was hitting his spots. It was an easy 1, 2, 3 inning. The top of the second me or Eric did not get up to bat but we managed to score a run. My dad called me over because the heart of their line up was coming up he told me to keep them guessing, which means not to keep a rhythm of what pitch you are going to throw next. The first pitch that we threw was a curveball because we knew he was going to sit a fast ball. The count was 0-1. Then we came back with a changeup and he was so early he almost swung out of his shoes. The count was 0-2. We came back with a fastball by the letter and he missed the ball and in 3 pitches we struck out the 4 hitter. Then the next 2 batters were easy one popped out and one hit a ground ball to second base.
The top of the line up for our team was up. The one hitter hit a single, the 2 hitter walked, and I was up. The pitcher I was facing knew me and he knew what kind of pitch I hit really well so he threw me a fast ball inside for strike one. Then he threw me a curve ball for strike two. Then I look back at my dad and I see that he was recording. I see the pitch coming outside my favorite spot then SMACK home run over the right center fence. My first home run ever. I was so excited it felt so good getting the first one and my dad got it on video. And that's how I hit my first home run.
