What a wonderful start we’ve had to Year 5! The pupils have settled well into their new classroom (complete with spectacular views) and are wearing their new ties with pride. This week, we embarked on our first trip to Leeds City Museum! While there, we took part in a workshop focused on Ancient Greece and enjoyed some time exploring the museum’s fascinating exhibits.
Have a fabulous and refreshing half-term, and we will see you in November!
As part of Bradford City of Culture 2025, Year 5 and 6 had an exciting visit from the Alive and Kicking drama experience! Pupils took part in a brilliant workshop called “The Museum of Untold Stories.”
Each group was given a magical artefact — a portrait with enchanted eyes that could be lifted to peek through — and used their imaginations to create their very own story. Using their creativity and amazing acting skills, the children brought to life a thrilling medieval tale all about two princesses locked in a fierce battle for the throne!
Their story was packed with royal rivalries, daring decisions, and plenty of unexpected twists and turns that kept everyone hooked from start to finish. Year 5 are now busy writing up their fantastic stories and can’t wait to share them soon!
In Science, pupils have been exploring materials and their properties. We investigated mixtures and solutions by trying to dissolve both sand and salt in water. As many pupils predicted (perhaps thanks to trips to the beach), the sand didn’t dissolve but instead sank to the bottom of the container.
We also had great fun mixing tiny iron filings with sand and then separating them using a magnet. The children were fascinated to see the tiny filings clinging to the magnet like a wild new hairstyle!
Next, we’ll be learning about friction in a hands-on experiment using jelly cubes and olive oil—so stay tuned to see what slippery discoveries we make!
In PE, Year 5 decided to shake things up a bit! Alongside our usual curriculum, we added a few fun twists. First up: Human Hungry Hippos. The class had an absolute blast playing a life-sized version of the classic children’s game. Pupils worked in teams to collect balls from the middle of the hall. One pupil lay on a wheeled board holding a giant pair of hands, while another pushed them back and forth. This activity was an absolute hit and is definitely a keeper!
We were thrilled to host our very first Foxhill Strongman/Woman event! Pupils went head-to-head in a series of exciting challenges, including the Farmer’s Walk, Car Pull, Tyre Carry, and Obstacle Course. They displayed incredible strength, determination, and teamwork as they tackled each challenge. A huge well done to all our pupils, and a special thank you to our parent volunteer for leading the event and making it such a success!
