We’ve had a fantastic start to the year in Reception! The children have settled in beautifully and quickly adapted to our daily routines. It’s been a joy to watch new friendships blossom and to see the children confidently exploring both our indoor and outdoor learning environments together.
We’ve made great progress in phonics, learning lots of new sounds and we are thoroughly enjoying our reading sessions. Thank you for your continued support with reading at home—it really makes a difference!
We’ve also been working hard on developing our pencil grip and have enjoyed different activities to strengthen the muscles in our hands and fingers. The children have been practising writing their names, and we’re already seeing some brilliant handwriting emerging!
Our Drawing Club sessions have been magical! Each week, a new story arrives in a mysterious and exciting way, sparking the children’s imagination. We’ve explored fantastic vocabulary and brought each story to life through our creative drawings.
In Maths, we’ve been learning about different representations of numbers and practising our subitising skills through fun games. We’ve also explored patterns and had great fun creating our own repeating patterns using natural materials.
In Understanding the World, we’ve been reflecting on how we’ve changed over time. The children enjoyed comparing photos of themselves as babies with pictures from their first day at Foxhill. We also explored our families and created our very own family trees.
This half term, we’ve taken part in several special events, including National Poetry Day, World Mental Health Day, and a Spanish-themed afternoon. It’s certainly been a busy and exciting start to the year!
Wishing you all a wonderful half term break—I can’t wait to hear all about what you get up to!
See you after the break.
