Layout viewports will display scaled views of the model space in the paper space in order to setup the final drawing for plotting. Each layout can have one or more different viewports depending on the need.
Creating a rectangular viewport will be the most common for this level of AutoCAD.
1) Switch to the paper space by clicking the Layout1 tab in the bottom left of the screen
2) Select the Layout tab in the ribbon
3) Click the Rectangular Viewport button to activate the new viewport command
4) Create a rectangle inside the desired space for the drawing to appear
The Polygonal viewport command will create an irregular shaped viewport by defining the corners of the polygon and the Object viewport command can create circle, ellipse, polyline, and region viewports.
Other types of viewports can be accessed by selecting the downward arrow on the Layout Viewports tab. This will open the Viewports dialog box that contains various options.
The drawing will be automatically scaled to fit inside the viewport. Double click inside the viewport area to see the scale in the Status Bar. Click the scale to change it to a standard fit.
The first number in the scale ratios represents the plot size and the second number represents the real size represented by that plot size.
A view (with specified location, magnification, and orientation) can be saved so that it can easily be returned to at any time. To create a a Named View, naviagate to the part of the drawing to be saved, select the View tab, and click New View.
To print the finished drawing, navigate to File then Plot. If prompted, select "Continue to plot a single sheet" as batch plotting is for printing plan sets where there are multiple drawings included. This will bring up the Plot dialog box, which is very similar to the Page Setup Manager. Ensure all settings are still correct and view the preview to double check. Click OK to print the drawing to the assigned printer.
