Dimensions in a drawing will typically be on their own layer. The dimension commands make adding the measurements easy and accurate since the design should already be drawn to-scale. The dimension options below are the most commonly used:
Linear - Creates a horizontal or vertical dimension line
Aligned - Creates a linear dimension line that is parallel with the defined endpoints
Angular - Creates a dimension for the angle between two objects
Radius - Creates a radius dimension for an arc (includes the radius symbol)
Diameter - Creates a diameter dimension for a circle (includes the diameter symbol)
Similar to the text style, the dimension style can be modified so that all dimensions in the drawing are consistent. To edit a dimension style or add a new one, click the Annotation drop down below the Text command button and select the second option. This will open the Dimension Style Manager.
By selecting New or Modify, many options can be customized. The dimension and extension lines can be edited as well as the size and shape of the arrowheads. The text appearance and placement can be modified along with how the dimensions will be fit and the units/ precision used. Basically, any change that needs to be made to how the dimension looks will be made in this dialog box.
