By default, AutoCAD reads input values as Cartesian coordinates (x,y) where x is the horizontal distance and y is the vertical distance from the origin (0,0). This is an application of mathematics and the principals are the same. The rightward and upward direction are positive, while leftward and downward are negative. And all angles are measured from the positive x-axis rotating counter-clockwise.
