This course focuses on using software to create two-dimensional drawings so the most relative type of techical drawing is the multiview drawing. Also called orthographic projection, or three-view drawing, multiview drawings typically include three plane projections of an object to show all the features and their dimensions (shape and size).
The most commonly used views are the front, top, and right side views. The front view should be the view that includes the most detail. It is also standard to only dimension a feature once and to place shared dimensions in between the views. For example, in the multiview drawing to the right, the height of the object is 3.50 units and it is labelled on the front view (since that is most detailed), but placed between the front and right side view since they both share the height dimension. The front view illustrates length and height, the top view will show length and width, and side view will include height and width.
Recall the line types and principles of projection from Lesson 1.02 as that knowledge will aid in the visualization and creation of the multiview drawing.
