Creating two-dimensional drawings of a three-dimensional object requires visualization skills and practice.
The point of sight is the position of the observer in relation to the object. When determining the front view, then the point of sight is in front of the object; when determining the top view, then the point of sight is above the object; etc.
The observer views the features of the object through the projection plane which is an imaginary plane that is perpendicular to the line of sight.

The glass box method is a common way to visualize the plane projections. This considers if the object was surrounded by a glass cube where each side of the cube is made up of a glass plane. Looking through each glass plane individually would allow the observer to determine the the two dimension view.
