Dear Secondary One students
[Complete this assignment only based on the instructions given to you by your teachers. Your teacher(s) may have a different plan for you for the remaining weeks of the Digital Skills Programme (DSP)]
We have come to the end of Term 2, and the end of the Digital Skills Programme (DSP). But before we draw the curtains on the learning of ICT in the DSP, there is a 'graduating' piece of work to be completed.
Have you ever watched videos on YouTube or vlogs and wish you can create content like those YouTubers and Vloggers? This is the golden opportunity now! We are excited to inform you that the assignment from Week 8 to 10 is to create an instructional video using iMovie in order to teach someone how to do something useful and good!
What are instructional videos? Some examples are:
(non-dangerous) science experiments, how to test aquarium water quality, how to make a pulley system at home etc.
sports techniques, e.g. how to do a jump-shot, how to take a penalty kick, how to score a strike (bowling), how to cycle etc.
hobby activities, e.g. how to bake macarons, how to play Chinese chess, how to play the guitar etc.
academic work, e.g. how to write an essay, how to create a Google Form etc.
Let's take a look at some examples of them on YouTube:
Instructions for Students:
You are required to:
1) follow the steps in the video tutorials below to create an instructional video in order to teach someone something useful and good (There is no restrictions on the type of content, as long as it meets the objectives as stated)
2) [IMPORTANT] discuss with your DSP teacher(s) what your plans are before you continue - You must clearly convey your intentions to your teacher(s) before proceeding with the creation of video. E.g. email your teacher to inform him or her about your plans during HBL
3) use iMovie to create the video - All other tools and applications for video-making are not allowed
The video requirements:
1) The video created must have your own voice narration on the instructions
2) The video created must contain captions or instructions to help your friend learn
3) The video created must have effects and animations (e.g. the slow motion as seen in the YouTube video about jump shots)
4) The video created must not have any inappropriate choice of words, gestures and / or hidden meanings
5) The video should at least be 120 seconds in length
6) The video must be for the intention of teaching someone to do something useful and good.
7) Do not waste time to create a video that teaches people to do overly simple tasks (e.g. how to eat Mee Goreng, how to walk down the stairs, how to flush the toilet etc.)
Let's now check out the steps to create a video using iMovie!

A) On your iPad, record a video
B) Load the video onto iMovie by following the steps in this video

14.10 iMovie: A full example of a video created
(Pay attention to all the transitions and effects that are shown in the video. They are to provide you with examples so as to generate ideas about the video you are planning to create.
Remember that the topic you are creating should be about a tutorial video to teach someone something useful and good. So don't stray from the intended objective.
Be creative!)
