植物特性：

常綠喬木，高約9-20公尺，全株有乳汁，有時有板狀根，樹皮灰褐。葉全緣，長卵形，濃綠色，長10-15公分，變異甚多，倒卵形或長圓形。花單性，雌雄同株，雌花序圓柱形或長圓形，生於樹幹或主枝上的球形花托內。聚合果長圓形、橢圓形或倒卵形，成熟時長25-60公分，黃綠色，表面有六角形龜甲狀突起，內有很多黃色肉質的花被，假種皮黃色而包被種子，果肉富含香氣。

花期：11月-3月 /果期：5月- 8月

■《大唐西域記》：「奔那伐彈那國，周四千餘里，國大都城周三十餘里。居人殷盛，池館花林往往相間。土地卑濕，稼穡滋茂。般橠娑果既多且貴，其果大如冬瓜，熟則黃赤，剖之中有數十小果，大如鶴卵，又更破之，其汁黃赤，其味甘美。或在樹枝，如眾果之結實;或在樹根，若伏苓之在土。」

“Breadfruit is plentiful but nevertheless expensive. This fruit is as large as a white gourd and is yellowish-red in color when ripe. When it is cut open one can see several tens of smaller fruits inside, each as large as a crane’s egg. When cut the fruit oozes yellowish-red juice with a sweet and delicious taste.”
