When the ARDC is seeking Counseling and/or Psych Services, the assessment staff will:
Conduct a REED to request a counseling evaluation
Meet with the LSSP/SpEd Counselor to review the REED
The LSSP/SpEd Counselor will:
Obtain informed consent and provide procedural safeguards to the parent
Conduct the counseling evaluation
Upon completion of the counseling evaluation, the LSSP/SpEd Counselor will:
Determine whether there is a need to incorporate counseling as a related service for the student
If the student requires the related service to benefit from special education, the LSSP/SpEd Counselor will:
Work in conjunction with the SpEd Counselor to develop goals
Determine frequency and duration of counseling services
The SpEd Counselor/LSSP (for students with a BIP) will:
Input counseling goals into eSpEd
Provide counseling services with students
Update progress in eSpEd
Determine the need for future counseling services
Attend ARDs as needed
*Note: When entering counseling services on the schedule of services page, be sure you are choosing "Counseling Services" for students receiving group or individual counseling services and "Psych Services" for any other need including consult with teachers, parents & students.
Counseling Services: Should be listed as Direct Services unless the Counselor is only consulting with the classroom teacher(s).
WHO IS QUALIFIED TO RENDER SPED COUNSELING SERVICES DIRECT AND INDIRECT PER TEA GUIDELINES:
According to Counseling as a Related Service Workshop presented by Region 10 Service Center, whomever has time and is trained, competent and qualified to render direct and indirect services. This would include:
Gen Ed Counselor/LPC
LSSP
SPED Counselor
Social Services Worker
MH Service Provider
or other Qualified Personnel
