Shared Material: Information – Shared Instructional Material Cleaning from Dr. Lippy:
Shared materials need to be cleaned/disinfected prior to use by another student. The peroxide cleaner supplied by FCPS will remove the microbes from the surface of objects when used with the microfiber towel supplied for each classroom. The disinfectant can be used, but must sit for the 10-minute duration of the dwell time. After the 10-minute dwell time of the disinfectant, the disinfectant residue on the materials can be wiped off and/or rewashed with soap and water to be used by other students. Both cleaning and disinfecting are appropriate for preparing materials for use by another group of students. The individual cleaning the materials should wash or sanitize their hands prior to and following the material preparation.
e.g. paint brushes - clean, disinfect (10-minute dwell time), rinse to remove disinfectant residue; PE recreational balls - disinfect, wipe off residue

To build interactive activities- flippity.net
This link has some google slide templates that might be helpful or adaptable to create interactive slides. Note- it was designed for PD for adults in Comp Sci, so it might need some adapting but it’s a nice place to think about some different strategies or borrow a slide or two.
Someone shared this folder with me and I thought it might be helpful to some of you.
From a Teacher
I was starting to experience a lot of leg pain and even some occasional swelling. This was particularly upsetting to me because I had started taking up an exercise/healthier eating regimen. You have probably seen the Cubii advertised on TV. I discovered this on Amazon for $100 less than the Cubii. It's called Sunny Health & Fitness. I've been keeping it under my desk, and it's been wonderful!
Do you or your students want to split their screen? Watch a tutorial while performing a function or copy and paste easily from one window to another.
Add - TAB RESIZE Chrome Extension and split your screen how you want.
If you are using Google Slides to push out your playlist, you may want to add some audio instruction.
Watch the short video on how to accomplish this.
Maybe you want to try something different. Adobe Spark is is a web and mobile app graphic design program. It is approved by FCPS and you can get the premium program.
Check out all the resources on the The Hub Page - Adobe Spark
Savannah Vaughn shared tip yesterday with our middle school FACS teachers and I'm passing this along. Make your links in your playlist activate the Schoology activity when possible. Check out the video: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1PFLOwdisqp0mQoBCVW-_XRcZZa_qM8H7/view
Thanks Savannah!!!
With the Pear Deck Add-on, you can leave audio instructions, descriptions, or examples for your students to hear while they read the prompts and respond to Interactive Questions in your Pear Deck Slides presentations. You can make a new recording instantly or add one from your computer. The recordings you insert will play in the Student View of your live presentation Sessions, so it's perfect for any remote learning lesson. Please note: this is a Premium feature and is only available in Pear Deck for Google Slides at this time.
Found a webpage, image, or quote that you want to save for later? With the Google Keep Chrome Extension, easily save the things you care about to Keep and have them synced across all of the platforms that you use — including web, Android, iOS, and Wear. Take notes for additional detail and add labels to quickly categorize your note for later retrieval. Features: • Save URLs, text, and images • Take notes on saved content • Add labels to your notes • Automatically saves to Google Keep

Create a playlist for your students to view in YouTube for investigation - Here is an example of one I did years ago - Hot Air Balloons Playlist.
Upload your personal screencastify into a YouTube video to create a playposit, that would grade automatically into Schoology.
Step 1: Check out your YouTube channel - make sure you are logged into your FCPS account
You will be able to find your videos and upload videos from your studio - https://studio.youtube.com/
Step 2: Publishing your screencastify to youtube
Make it private so only the students you share the link with can see it.
** One key tool Mike talks about is the calendar feature in schoology that provides a snapshot to both the student and the parent. Great stuff Mike, thanks for sharing.

Gary Wilfong shared this easy to watch TED Talk on Blended Learning. I has some great tips to help with rigor in our current environment.
Find out what the 5 Key Ingredients are to successful blended learning.
There has been a lot of discussion on the ability to engage students in computational thinking at all grade levels with virtual VEX Robots. Casey Day from Crestwood Middle put together a google slide to get the students started. Make a Copy and custom it to your curriculum. It is simple block programming so most students will pick it up quickly. I'm sure you can find a way to relate it to your content. Someday robots could be waiting on tables, assisting with construction in homes, delivering goods to home or CUTTING YOUR HAIR!!! (check out this guy getting his hair cut)
Thanks Casey!!!

Schoology Student Completion Info:
This tip is for students and teachers who feel comfortable with Schoology. It is a great Virtual learning tool, but take it slow.
Schoology allows teachers to enable Student Completion rules that force students to do specific tasks before moving on within a folder.
ENTIRE CLASS FEEDBACK:
ONE teacher video to the class that addresses the strengths and/or weaknesses of assigned work to the whole class rather than always giving one on one feedback. The philosophy is, there is a sense of contentedness to the whole group rather than feeling isolated. When students know that others are having the same troubles or successes, they tend to engage at higher levels.
Check out how to use a tool where your students can demonstrate evidence of learning.

Brian Ranallo from Oakdale Middle was willing to share his virtual learning plan for the week. Brain said, "I incorporate this entire lesson into Schoology so that students go to only one place. The nice thing is, all the links on the embedded slide work on the students landing page. in Schoology."
Key parts - Google Form for a weekly check-in and exit ticket, three screencastifies for directions, a play posit for learning, and a Pear Deck to apply. Please feel free to copy the template, but if your students have not used some of these tech tools you may want to on-board them slowly.
Please do not use Brian's form or Screencastify, I let them live just to show everyone what they look like. Please feel free to copy the template, but create your own link.
If you are doing something that is working, please share it as well. We have some great teachers doing some great things.
Example- Online Learning Weekly Template
We are all involved in more Google Meets, this shows a grid view of everyone involved and is much easier to facilitate for the presenter.
Learn Playposit - Three tools I would be using for online learning are Screencastify, PearDeck, and PlayPosit. if you don't know what PlayPosit is, check it out here: If you like it, sign up for a webinar to learn how to incorporate it in your online learning.
PlayPosit is offering super helpful weekly webinars that open to all Frederick County Public Schools (MD) faculty and staff! This week we will be offering both advanced and beginner options.
Additionally, we're offering open office hours every week. These office hours are unstructured meeting times designed to allow anyone to pop in and ask questions or get help with PlayPosit.

Next Gen Personal Finance developed free online games to provide the hooks to get students engaged in decision making around paying for college, budgeting, investing and more. Each game also has a reflection Worksheet.
Virtual Learning is going to be a marathon, not a sprint. One of the tools I would have in my tool bag would be PearDeck. Check out the collection of live and pre-recorded webinars that can help you get started with PearDeck and Virtual Learning.
Sign up for one of their webinars, we all have the time to learn new things. https://bit.ly/2xcUFzW

InsertLearning (Chrome Extension) saves teachers and students time while keeping students engaged. Teachers can insert questions, discussions, and insight directly into any website. When students go to that website, they can respond to those questions and discussions, see that insight, and take their own notes.
Check out this 6 minute video on how to get your class started. Insert learning There is a little onboarding and setting up a class, but I think many people will find this as an excellent distant learning tool.
Connect with others through CTE Virtual Learning discussion folders. Also, take advantage of our office hours, we are having some great discussions. We will post our times for next week on our CTE Virtual Learning Page over the weekend.

Recommendations When Preparing For Week 1 (3/30/20)
On-board your students with online learning gradually.
Review or develop a low stakes one week unit.
Gradually introduce software tools that you think may be necessary for your instruction. (not recommended in the first few days)
Important as stated in the Guidebook - Only use the list of FCPS Digital Tools with your students. If it is in the included Core or Supplemental digital tools list, you may use it with your students. If you feel you need an additional tool, request it !! (Also contact Kristine, Norm, or Korbin so we can assist in getting it approved)
