HOW TO USE IT: Make a copy select the standards you want to focus on. Here is an example for an 8th Grade Tech Ed classroom that teachers will use for the first assignment for a pre-assessment for their SLO. Customize the "Look Fors" and Point Totals to meet you need.
HOW TO USE IT: A simple way to track daily success of student standards. Often times teachers post questions and never evaluate them. These simple posts can guide your instruction and personalize it.
CTE Self Reflection & Goal Setting
HOW TO USE IT: Students must take ownership in their learning, effective teachers utilize these two important tools in their classroom. Students become engaged, set the goals they want to achieve and can celebrate their success. You can also use the Google Form CTE Self Reflection.
End of the Year: End Of Year Self Reflection
HOW TO USE IT: Make a Copy and you can select a group of students from each class who did not perform well on a category (Recommend 5 to 10) or you could select a specific class. Maybe you want to focus on something that is specifically taught in your class. For example a middle school tech ed course I would probably focus on the categories of Innovative Designer or Empowered Learner, but you may have a group of student that lack being a responsible citizen. The ultimate choice is yours.
HOW TO USE IT: Successful SLO's require relationship building with students and you need to get to know them. Utilizing these simple "This or That" questions begin to build the needed connections.
Teacher 1 - In preparation for career and college readiness, students need to know how to act as an ethical and responsible leader to effectively complete a task (this skill #6 on the FCPS CTE rubric). This SLO focuses on a subgroup of students in my classes that are struggling with this skill as noted through their scores on the CTE rubric of a Pre Assessment Project. My student learning objective is that 85% of the targeted students will improve their score on a Post Assessment (as compared to the Pre Assessment) by at least 1 score point based on the CTE Career Ready Practices Rubric.
Teacher 2 - I plan on using the CTE rubric for assessing growth. The two areas where I am finding evidence of weakness are in the creative communicator and skilled professional categories. I think both of these disciplines are valuable and people grow in these areas throughout the course of their lives. Another measure that I plan on using is growth in ALL areas of the CTE rubric by a minimum of one rubric score point. This at least demonstrates that there has been improvement in student performance across all components that we teach throughout the course.
Teacher 3 - Communication and collaboration have been the biggest barriers within the rubric so far this year. My eighth graders have managed to become less responsive to open ended questioning and collaborative tasks (didn't think possible!). Finding ways to engage students with one another is more difficult than ever. My thoughts on the SLO would be a focus in the area of collaboration. I am weighing teacher selected vs. peer selected groupings with the idea of generating more student agency. Still a lot of work to be done here.
Teacher 4 - I chose 3 criteria; skilled professional, creative communicator, and computational thinker. Since evaluating them, the 2 measures to best demonstrate growth are skilled professional and computational thinker, these were the weakest areas. I am always searching for new, innovative ways to support my students with their research. I plan on choosing those who scored the lowest in these two areas to create my 2 measures. For example, I could focus on the students that received all ones in each of these 3 areas. I would take 10 of the weakest students and set a goal to improve 8 of the 10 their scores to at a minimum of all 2's. I am eager to see what you do for their slo and your thoughts. I am up for a better idea, one tailored toward distant learning.
Teacher 5 - SLO #1 Summary: In preparation for career and college readiness, students need to demonstrate communication effectively. This will be achieved through recognizing how to value learning academic and technical skills to complete tasks and endure when problems occur. This SLO focuses on student attendance and academic achievement through effective communication, building endurance and fostering perseverance with a subgroup of students in 3 out of my 5 classes that are struggling with academic and perseverance skills as noted through their scores on the Pre-test using the CTE rubric and the Pre Assessment PBL Project using a teacher’s checklist of skills demonstrated during the stages of the project. My student learning objective is that 80% of the targeted students will improve their score on the PBL Post Assessment by at least 1 score point.
