Print out the General Safety Pledge - Parents and Students Signature is required. Safety Pledge(Spanish)
A student should not be in any shop with FCPS without the signed (student and parent) safety pledge.
Send home the parent Parent Safety Letter.
This provides the important info to the teacher and makes the parent aware of the safety necessary in the shop.
Every teacher does it a little different, but all students should take a written/Schoology exam and be closely supervised the first time they utilize a new piece of equipment. (Some do all the test in a few weeks but it is recommended that you cover the equipment as needed for a specific project) - Use the Forms Checklist, Safety Checklist, MS Student Checklist or a similar document to keep accurate records.

Make sure you equipment is in proper working order. If necessary complete a REPAIR FORM.
All students should have on protective eye devices on anytime they or someone else are using any tools in the shop. COMAR - Protective Eye Devices
If there is a minor accident/ injury (cuts and scrapes), follow the procedures outlined by your nurse and school's administration for reporting accidents.

If there is a major accident/injury (requiring hospital treatment), follow the procedures outlined by your nurse and school's administration for reporting accidents AND contact the CTE Department (301) 644-5188.
Fill out the Accident Reporting Form and/or follow the accident reporting procedures in TAC via this process
It is recommended that the following documents be gathered of the injured student :
Signed copy of the Syllabus that references safety
Signed copies for student pledge (with parent signature), Copies of all safety exams (failed and passed with 100%)
Any maintenance or service records (CTE Central Office typically has them but you should maintain a copy of them as well)
Any evidence of training provided to the student, any evidence of safety produces that were reviewed prior to the accident.

Students complete and pass with 100% the safety test.
