Learning Curriculum for In-Class or At-Home Learning
Certiport and our Learning Partners have created course materials and practice tests that work well in the classroom or at home. Whether you are in a school computer lab, or at home with a Chromebook, we have the learning products that will work for you and your students, as they prepare for certification exams. For example, we have a complete cloud-based curriculum for Microsoft Office and Adobe that will work on PCs, MACs, and Chromebooks.
To learn more about all of our learning partners and their remote capabilities, view our information sheet here!
Show Me Remote Learning Options!
GMetrix will also have a complete cloud-based solution for the Live in the App (LITA) Microsoft Office and Adobe practice tests available in August. This will allow students to utilize the LITA tests without having to install the Microsoft Office, Adobe, or GMetrix software - and yes, it will work with Chromebooks! The ACU (LITA) exams will follow, but we don't have a release date yet.
Don't just take my word for it! I'm happy to demo the options for learning curriculum offered by Certiport and answer any questions you may have!
Best,
Eric Gilbert

Office 365- Primary tool for using Microsoft in a virtual teaching environment.
Remote Desktop portal for accessing the desktop versions on a Chromebook.
To be used once the capability's of Office 365 has been exhausted.
We know that the actual use of Microsoft products plays an important role for students to prepare for industry certification, there are a number of topics that are listed in the Essential curriculum that do not specifically require the use of a Microsoft product to learn, explore, or grow in their career readiness. Here are a few suggested topics:
Financial Literacy (Sample project)
Informed Consumer (Sample project)
Career Readiness
Essential Curriculum that does not require Microsoft software
Needed for fall if distance learning again.
SAM (Cengage)
online textbook, trainings, projects, tests
we could still get by with the 2016 license if that saves money over the 2019
it'd be GREAT if Tech Services installs the LTI App in Schoology for Cengage LMS Integration
allows teachers to assign SAM activities directly through Schoology
eliminates the possibility of students launching the wrong activity in SAM (surprisingly, this happens frequently)
eliminates the need for teachers to run an activity report in SAM, then go back to Schoology to manually enter the grades

Cengage is a content delivery platform specializing in innovative teaching, learning, and research solutions for the academic,...
Office 365 (connected to FCPS OneDrive)
Office 365 is the ONLY way for Chromebook students to use Word, Excel, and PowerPoint (Access has to be downloaded on computers)
preparing for a MOS exam requires more than a flash-bashed "simulated" Office environment available in third-party apps
completing SAM projects and other class assignments require more than a flash-based "simulated" Office environment available in third-party apps
it'd be GREAT if Tech Services installs the LTI App in Schoology for OneDrive Assignments
allows teachers to assign Office file activities in OneDrive directly through Schoology
eliminates the need for teachers to "share" files with students
eliminates the need for students to log in to OneDrive to find the start file "shared" by their teacher
eliminates the need for students to "share" their completed file with their teacher
eliminates the need for teachers to log in to OneDrive to find completed files "shared" by the students (often with new file names)
eliminates the need for teachers to grade files in OneDrive, then go back to Schoology to manually enter the grades

HELPFUL for Instruction:
GMetrix
some schools purchase licenses with MOI money
these practice exams are extremely helpful in exposing students to the MOS exam testing environment
this program only launches practice exams if the Office applications are also installed on the computer (these are NOT accessible for Chromebook students)
TestOut
several teachers used this during Distance Learning (while it was free)
Great videos with interactive text (a huge improvement over SAM's eBook)
simulated labs are very similar to the SAM Trainings
The CTE Team is reviewing the information that Certiport is providing about online/at-home testing options. Below are the instructions were provided.

Hello Educators,
Here is some great news about the Certiport exams from home test solution. I know many of you have questions, so I am available anytime for assistance. I am also available for conference calls to help groups better understand the exams from home process, our technology, what to expect and answer questions. Please contact me at 801-772-3257 or email eric.gilbert@pearson.com to schedule a conference call. Here is the official release of the new exams from home test solution.
NEW CERTIPORT EXAMS FROM HOME SOLUTION
We recognize the difficult nature that COVID-19 has placed on educators, administrators and businesses. In an effort to support customers and individuals to continue their education online in these extraordinary times, Certiport has developed a new assessment solution, “Certiport Exams from Home.” Using virtual machines, test candidates can take administered exams from home. This new solution allows individuals to continue to pursue an industry-recognized certification that will distinguish themselves from others in an increasingly difficult hiring environment. With “Certiport Exams from Home,” test candidates can have a seamless and convenient testing experience, as long as they have a high-speed internet connection from home. This temporary solution will be available through June 30, 2020 and is available where permitted by law.
Certiport has developed two options for this solution, now available for CATC’s in North America:
1) a Full-Service option in which a Certiport Authorized Testing Center (CATC) schedules a testing session and a Certiport employee administers the exam remotely; or
2) a Self-Service option in which a CATC instructor may schedule and administer the exams to candidates themselves.
The Certiport Exams from Home solution starts with a Certiport Authorized Testing Center (CATC) visiting www.certiport.com/examsfromhome. This web page outlines the process to enable candidates to test from home and identifies technical requirements. Included on this web page are instructions for:
• Scheduling a Testing Session
• Exam Administrator Guide
• Test Candidate Guide
Instructors can schedule exams in groupings of either 5 or 10 individuals to test in one exam session. Scheduling is open and CATC’s can schedule at their convenience based on availability they see in the system. Exams are delivered through a hosted, typical exam experience with a high-speed internet connection and almost any computer.
FULL-SERVICE OPTION
With the Full-Service option, the Exam Administrator (Instructor) will rely on a Certiport representative to administer the exams to the Test Candidate in a virtual environment using virtual machines. Due to the coordination required between all parties, exams must be requested and scheduled in advance. We request that you only request exam reservations for the number of exams that you will use. Any questions or changes to a scheduled exam must be made 48 hours in advance by e-mailing examsfromhome@pearson.com.
SELF-SERVICE OPTION
While the Full-Service option is very convenient, availability is limited. The Self-Service option provides greater flexibility in administration of exams. While scheduling for either option can be done today the Self-Service exam delivery will only be activated for use beginning on Tuesday, April 21, 2020.
The Certiport Exams from Home solution is currently available in English and is being piloted internationally.
It is our hope that this “Certiport Exams from Home” solution will allow individuals to continue their education experience and complete the school year with an industry-recognized certification for their future college and career success.
Please contact me anytime for questions or assistance.

Eric Gilbert

Steps in Online testing -
All students Should Test Bandwidth - www.speedtest.net
Make sure they understand this important information: Important: Test Candidates should not enter any personal information into the Notepad during their testing session. Should a candidate provide personal information in the Notepad during a testing session, the Certiport representative will immediately terminate the exam session.
Make sure your student knows the exact name of the test. Example: (e.g. MOS Excel 2016)
Do not go wild with these exams, respect others, I will attempt to update the total weekly.
Any questions Email - examsfromhome@pearson.com.
Inform students they may need to expand the browser for optimal viewing. To do this have them click the three vertical buttons on the top right side of the window and click expand (see the Test Candidate page for details)
Once you set up test candidates, please document on the spreadsheet how many students and what test they are taking.

We knew that distance learning would create a barrier for students to access the necessary software for continuity of learning to occur in FCPS's Microsoft Certification classes. The CTE team and multiple departments in Central Office began work to get a solution approved as quickly as possible
3/17 Discussed with Tech Services and key staff members during the first week of school closure.
Began developing some curriculum lessons that met the standards, to get us through the 1st few weeks.
Immediately put our requests in through the formal approval process, outlined in the FCPS Digital Tools site.
4/1 FCPS had not approved this for student use, but we knew it was close and we asked for one of the following options to be approved:
FCPS Tech Services enables Office 365 for students. (There are internal privacy settings that they are reviewing)
FCPS students are allowed to create personal Office 365 accounts for educational purposes. (we were hoping a decision was made before the return of spring break.
4/3 - Tech Services approved Office 365 for all students in MOS and a list was requested from each teacher,
4/7 to 4/9 worked out some bugs
4/14 tested it with a few students
4/15 presented it to teachers.
