Introduction to the Course
The world of accounting is diverse and ever-changing, due in large part to dramatic shifts in the business world: greater specialization, technological innovation, regulation, globalization, mergers, and outsourcing. Depending on the organization, accountants may be responsible for payroll, accounts receivable and payable, financial reporting, financial analysis, corporate accounting, compliance, and many other financial tasks. Regardless of their department or position, though, accountants’ jobs relate in some way to making strategic decisions to report, obtain, save, protect, and grow the financial assets of businesses. As a result, all accounting professionals must have strong computational, analytical, and interpersonal skills.
To that end, the Advanced Accounting course builds on and furthers students’ skills and knowledge of accounting. It expands students’ understanding of financial accounting, payroll, and accounts receivable and payable as well as introduces them to more advanced topics including managerial accounting, corporate accounting and capital investing.
