The Chicago Korean Education Center (Director Sangyeon Moon) has announced a writing for students learning Korean in the Midwest region of the United States. The competition is organized to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Korea-U.S. alliance and the 120th anniversary of Korean immigration to the Americas.
1. 올해는 한미동맹 70주년이 되는 해입니다. 한국어를 공부하는 학생으로서 앞으로 한미 관계를 강화하거나 두 문화 간의 상호 이해를 증진하기 위해 자신이 어떤 역할을 할 것이라고 생각합니까?
- This year marks the 70th anniversary of the Republic of Korea and the United States Alliance. As a student studying Korean, what role do you envision yourself playing in the future to enhance the relationship between Korea and the United States or foster mutual understanding between the two cultures?
2. 올해는 한인 이민자가 미국에 도착한지 120주년이 되는 해입니다. 이민자들이 미국 사회를 형성하는 데 미친 막대한 영향에 대해 생각해 볼 가치가 있습니다. 한인 이민자를 포함한 이민자들이 이룬 가장 중요한 사건이나 공헌은 무엇이라고 생각하며 그 이유는 무엇입니까?
- This year marks the 120th anniversary of the arrival of Korean immigrants to the United States; it's worth reflecting on the immense impact that immigrants have had on shaping American society. In your opinion, what do you consider to be the most significant event or contribution made by immigrants, including Korean immigrants, and why?
The essay is open to either English or Korean language, and submitting entries of two pages or more is recommended.
