Our House System creates a sense of community and some healthy competition amongst the students and staff at Farlington. There are three houses which span the whole school from Reception to Year 13, creating a strong sense of belonging. The name of each House represents an inspiring icon who has made a significant and long-lasting contribution to society. The pupils at Farlington chose these icon themselves, as they felt they reflected the qualities we value highly:
Hawking (green) - named after Stephen Hawking (physicist, cosmologist and author)
Luther King (blue) - named after Martin Luther King Jr (civil rights activist)
Parks (red) - names after Rosa Parks (civil rights activist)
Our reward system is based on Positives and Commendations. A Positive earns one house point and a Commendation earns five house points so pupils are constantly earning rewards for their House. Rewards are given for a range of achievements from classwork and prep to good behaviour and community spirit. At the end of each term, the scores for each House are totalled across the whole school, and the winning House receives a House celebration at the start of the following term to recognise their achievements.
Students are given the opportunity to represent their house in a wide range of activities including; inter-house sports competitions, competitions for World Book Day, the Bake Off, treasure hunts, Pancake Racing on Shrove Tuesday and varied House Challenge mornings for all age groups across the year. The range of events reflects the holistic and engaging ethos of our House system, giving everyone the chance to shine. Another focus of the House system is raising money for charity, such as the Bake Off for Red Nose Day.
Students are also given the opportunity to develop their leadership skills within the House system, giving students the opportunity to be at the fore-front of events such as the House Challenge mornings.
