First Day of School
Your child's first day in the Middle School will start at the normal time of 8.25am. Members of the Middle School Team will be available to direct your son or daughter to the Outdoor Classroom, where our Middle School students will meet before heading off to their new tutor groups.
For parents of children in Years 5 and 6, please collect your child from outside the Year 5 and Year 6 classrooms at the end of the school day (these are located next to the Outdoor Classroom on the South Lawn). Years 7 and 8 will leave via the Pupil Entrance (which is at the top end of the main drive).
In Years 5 and 6, your child's Class Teacher continues to play a pivotal role in their pastoral development, and is your first point of contact for anything you may wish to discuss. Your child will have met his/her Class Teacher on the Moving-Up Afternoon.
In Years 7 and 8, your key contact is your child's Form Tutor, whom they see every morning and afternoon for registration. We will be notifying you of your son or daughter's Form Tutor for the coming year in due course.
At the start of the academic year, you will have the opportunity to meet with your child's Class Teacher or Form Tutor at the Parent Information Evening for the Middle School.
Middle School Curriculum & Teaching
The Middle School curriculum develops the skills and subjects that your child will have started to acquire/learn during their time in the Lower School. In Years 5 and 6, students are largely taught by their Class Teacher, to allow for a thematic-based curriculum which focuses on skills acquisition.
In Years 7 and 8, students attend classes with different subject specialists in the main departmental buildings. The curriculum is broad and offers a balanced mix of traditional academic core subjects, enrichment and sport.
In addition, all children in the Middle School have access to a wide selection of enrichment activities, including performing arts, music and sport, as well as department-specific options and House activities. Students will be asked to choose these for the coming term in their first week at Farlington.
Please see our Curriculum Microsite for specific details on what will be taught in each year group in the Middle School.
