Consent to use Photos, Videos & Names of Students
Farlington School and its parent company, Bellevue Education, from time to time use photographs and video footage of students who attend the school. These photos and videos are used for both educational and safety reasons (internal use), and promotional purposes (external use). The use of photo and video content helps to build our sense of community, improve learning outcomes in the education we offer, and celebrate student success, as well as supporting promotion of the school.
We ask parents for their consent upon joining the school, or where we have not received a previous response, and we ask students directly from Year 8 upwards (13 years of age). Any subsequent changes to be made must be notified to the school, details of which are given below.
All parents are required to sign our terms and conditions when they accept a place for their child at the school. Within our terms and conditions, the following is included with reference to the publishing of photographs, videos and names of students:
7.14. Photographs or images (including video recordings) By signing the Acceptance Form or agreeing to these terms and conditions, the Parents consent as far as is required under data protection law to the School obtaining and using photographs or images (including video recordings) of the pupil and/or the pupil’s name (only first names are used for external purposes unless separate explicit consent is given at the time of sharing to use the pupil’s full name) for:
7.14.1.use in the School's promotional material such as the prospectus, the website, school app, or social media;
7.14.2.press and media purposes;
7.14.3.educational purposes as part of the curriculum or extra-curricular activities.
The School may seek specific consent from the Parents before using a photograph or video recording where the School considers that the use is more privacy intrusive. Where the Pupil is of sufficient maturity (usually when aged 13 years or older) we may seek the Pupil's specific prior consent in addition to or instead of the Parents' consent. We would not disclose the home address of the Pupil without the Parents' consent. If the Parents do not wish the Pupil’s photograph or image to appear in any of the School’s promotional material they must issue such an instruction to the Headmaster in writing, requesting an acknowledgement of their letter.
Consent
The terms and conditions of the school will provide the basis for consent for the use of photographs, videos and student names to be used for internal and external use. Where the school receives explicit notice in relation to consent, the school will acknowledge this and update its register accordingly. You have a responsibility to update the school as to any change in your preference to provide consent for your child. From the age of 13, the school will seek the permission of each pupil directly either at the age of 13 years, or upon entry into the school.
Should you wish to withdraw your consent during the course of the school year, please write directly to the School Office, addressing this to the attention of our Marketing Manager, Mrs Anna Bannister (who collates the consent withdrawal record on behalf of the Headmaster).
Our school is a family school and its strength is in our community. The best way in which we can share all of the positive things that happen at Farlington and celebrate our pupils' achievement and success is through our communication of this and through our marketing.
Thank you for your support with this important aspect of our school community.
