First Day of School
Your son or daughter's first day at Farlington Sixth Form will start at the normal time of 8.25am. Please drop off your son or daughter outside the Sixth Form Centre, where members of the Senior School Team will be available to direct the students to meet their Sixth Form Tutor.
Your son or daughter's Sixth Form Tutor will be your main point of contact for this year. The role of the Sixth Form Tutor is to have a holistic overview of each tutee; your son or daughter's Tutor will work with you and your child, ensuring that both their pastoral and academic needs are met. Your child's Sixth Form Tutor will be in contact with you shortly after the beginning of term to introduce themselves.
Independent study is key to success at A-Level. As such, our Sixth Form students have study periods embedded into their school day in order to facilitate this. It is therefore expected that students are on site during these study periods.
Sixth Form students are permitted to come in just for their lessons on a Monday and Friday. If they have meetings for positions of responsibility or extra -curricular lessons on those days then they must come in for those also.
Should a Sixth Form student need to be absent from school, please see the Absence from School page.
Students in Year 12 will be permitted to retain their mobile phone whilst in school, provided that they and their parents have signed the 'Mobile Devices - Acceptable Use Policy for Students' document. This will be emailed to you at the beginning of term.
Sixth Form students will be allowed to use their mobile phone whilst in the Sixth Form Common Room, however when in the main school grounds, mobile phones should not be visible.
Our Sixth Form students are very much role models for the rest of the school, and so it is important that they model behaviour for the rest of the school.
Dress Code
Sixth Form students are permitted to wear business dress. The dress code is a two-piece suit in either black, blue or grey. Alternatively, a black, blue or grey blazer can be worn with a smart dress, skirt or trousers.
Jacket/blazers are expected to be worn around school but may be removed in lessons.
Skirts and dresses should be of an appropriate length - no shorter than a credit card's width above the knee. Very short skirts/ dresses are not permitted.
Tailored shirts/blouses should be worn with trousers and skirts. No crop tops.
No ties are necessary.
No trainers or plimsolls should be worn, unless in PE sessions or out of school hours.
Our Sixth Form students are very much role models for the rest of the school, and so it is important that they model suitable dress for the rest of the school.
Chromebooks
All those who join our Sixth Form in Year 12 must have a Chromebook. Whilst a Chromebook of your son or daughter's choice is acceptable for their school work, we ask that this device is brought to the IT Department at the start of term, to have it enrolled onto the Farlington domain before it is used for school work. This will cost £75.
This requirement to use only a managed Chromebook applies to all members of the Farlington community, even our teaching staff, as it is a condition of their using the Farlington network.
Sixth Form Curriculum & Teaching
Please see our Curriculum MicroSites for specific details on what will be taught in the Sixth Form.
Some Sixth Form lessons will be taught in the Sixth Form Centre itself, in tutorial rooms A1 and A2. Other lessons may be taught in reserved Sixth Form rooms in the Moberly Building, namely M8 and M9. Other locations may be used around the school as necessary, for example the Simpson Building, Languages Centre, Media Suite and Drama Studio.
