Course Selection
See Course of Study for more information.
Any class can count as elective credit if you have already met the requirement for that subject area. For example, taking a second year of fine art. Some classes will only count as elective credit (i.e. psychology, Six Sigma).
AP and Honors are challenging classes that will require more work and responsibility from the students. We recommend a maximum of 2 per year. Some students may feel adequately challenged without these courses, and that is perfectly okay.
The best place to look for this would be the high school's Course of Study. Here you will find information about what you will learn in those classes as well as prerequisites.
Academic Requirements
See FHS Graduation Requirements for more information.
In order to see your or your students' grades, you will have to log in to ProgressBook. If you are a student and need your ProgressBook log in information, please stop by Mrs. Oberschlake's desk in the Counseling office during the school day and she will help you get logged in. If you are a parent/guardian and need ProgressBook log in information, please send Mrs. Oberschlake an email requesting access at toberschlake@fairborn.k12.oh.us.
In order to get a copy of your transcript, you will need to fill out the Transcript Request form.
In order to move on to the next grade level, you must earn enough credits:
Sophomore: 5 credits
Junior: 10 credits
Senior: 15 credits
If you fail a class during the first semester, you are able to attend Credit Recovery After School to make up for any failed credits. You can also wait to make up for the credit(s) in summer school the following year.
If you fail a class during the second semester, you are able to sign up for summer school to make up for any failed credits. You can also wait to make up for the credit(s) in Credit Recovery After School the following school year.
Students have the opportunity to make adjustments to their schedules anytime between schedule pick up day and the first day of school. Starting on the first day of school, class changes will be made on a case-by-case basis. After the first two weeks of school, schedule changes will not be made without parent/guardian approval, principal approval, and receiving a WF grade on their transcript.

We will happily meet with parents/guardians; however, we do request that they make an appointment with their respective counselor ahead of time. Please email your assigned counselor to schedule an appointment. Our counseling secretary does not have access to our individual calendars, so she is unable to help with scheduling an appointment. We try our best to make ourselves as accessible as possible to students throughout the school day, so it is important we are not unavailable more than necessary. We also prefer to schedule appointments so we may block out a specific amount of time and ensure the meeting is given our absolute attention. Lastly, we prefer to be prepared. It is a much more productive meeting when we are able to plan, gather the necessary materials, and invite the necessary individuals to our scheduled meeting. For contact information for your child's counselor, please see the directory.
As counselors, we enjoy working with our students and building a positive rapport with each of you. We do understand there may be times we are not present and an issue must be resolved immediately. If this is the case, any available counselor would be happy to help you. If the matter is not urgent and can wait, we encourage you to fill out the Guidance Request form and we will see you when we return.
Many students work with counselors to discuss their academic needs and goals. However, as counselors, we are specifically trained to work with students dealing with numerous issues (i.e. personal, social, emotional). We are happy to meet with students and hope to provide a supportive and nurturing environment. Most importantly, we are professional counselors and maintain the rights of privacy for our students in most situations.
Some students opt to see Ms. Franks for their non-academic related concerns. You can request to see any of the counselors, including Ms. Franks, on the Guidance Request form on your class level Google Classroom.
Volunteering/Work/Career
Work permits are located in the main office of the high school. Be sure to fully read the application instructions so that you do not miss any required information! The State of Ohio requires that employers have a current work permit on file for employees under the age of 18.
We do not require volunteer hours for graduation. However, you can earn your Community Service seal by completing 40 hours of community service and turning in your Community Service seal form. You can pick up this form in the Counseling Office!
