The McKinney-Vento Act is a law that provides services and resources to students experiencing housing instabilities.
Students may qualify for this program if they lack a fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence, typically in one of these situations:
Temporarily doubled up/couch surfing
Temporarily staying in a motel/hotel
Living in a vehicle, camping, or other housing without access to utilities
Living in a homeless shelter
Unaccompanied youth living without a parent or legal guardian
Can continue attending school of origin, as long as it’s in the student’s best interest to do so.
Bus transportation to and from school of origin
Free meals at school
School supplies
Free tutoring
Connections and referrals to community Resources and agencies
Connections to basic needs items
Fee waivers for school related sports and activities
Your student is eligible for these services for the remainder of this school year, even if you find permanent housing at some point during the year.
Supportive Housing: Assists people who are experiencing homelessness or who are transitioning out of institutional settings. We help you prepare, move into and maintain permanent housing. The process begins with a thorough assessment of your housing needs and then a placement and support plan is developed with the goal to obtain stable housing.
