Hello, I'm Hillary Tuomi HCA's School Counselor.
I’ve worked with foster youth and their families since 2012 and been a school counselor in the Evergreen School District since 2018. I am determined to be a compassionate advocate for student success.
Early life: I grew up here in Clark County WA. I really struggled in school. This is probably why I relate to students challenges and where I learned to have a growth mindset. I have dyslexia and learning to read took me years longer then my peers. I didn't let dyslexia or behavior stop me from achieving my goal of going to college. I worked hard in my classes, joined clubs & sports, put in volunteer hours, and became an honors student in high school.
Fun fact: My high school mascot was a potato! Go Spudders!
Interests: I enjoy reading, hiking, painting, anime, soccer, and volunteering. I love animals and have a pet dog named Doom the destroyer (trust me she earned that name as a puppy)
Favorite Color: Teal
Education: I earned my undergraduate degree from Western Washington University graduating with a Bachelors of Arts. Once again I worked hard in my classes, joined school clubs, completed volunteer hours and became an honors student. I double majored meaning I had two fields of study at university. To complete both majors in 4 yeas I had to take additional classes and do summer school. My majors were Sociology and Political Science. In both programs my studies focused on creating equitable systems to help people. If you want to learn more about majors, WWU or college life please contact me.
I obtained my Masters degree later in life while working full time at a group home for behavioral foster youth. The last year of my program included an internship working as a school counselor at Mountain View High School. The hours were challenging and I graduated with honors from City University of Seattle with a Masters of Education in Professional School Counseling, and ESA certification.
Favorite Animal: Unicorn
Favorite Place: a cold pacific northwest beach
