The original idea of a "gap year" or "bridge year" is to take time off after graduating from high school and before entering college.

Students interested in taking a gap year are encouraged to have a specific plan/goal to accomplish during their first post-high school year. For example, what do you want to accomplish during this time? Get an internship, travel, work in the community?
