Teach growth mindset
Use language and approaches that encourage a growth mindset
Change “Look how fast you did that; you are so smart!” to “You really worked hard and organized carefully to get answers. Which strategies did you use?”
Avoid praising weak efforts or poor results
Emphasize logical processes, personal effort, and good questions rather than on grades
Help students realize that their success is due to their willingness to work hard
Help students chart their own growth so they can link effort to success
