Dear Silver Spring Families,
I hope you and your family are doing well and staying safe.
The end of October was a bit challenging for our school community due to the need to engage in distance learning at a moment's notice. It 1s a reminder that we need to be prepared to switch to distance learning to ensure the safety of our school community, which is a priority. Students must remember to bring home their Chromebooks and mateirals daily and return with them the each day. Parents and guardians must remember that we are all doing our best and to be kind to one another, as we all have our students' best interest at heart.
We must remember that we have much to be grateful for, and November is the time of year when we take time to give thanks.
Thank you for participating in Meet the Teacher Night. Our teachers worked hard to prepare for the meetings and it was great to see so many of you attend the Google Meets.
Thank you for completing your child's daily wellness check and for preordering your child's lunch. We are all doing our best to keep everyone safe and fed.
Thank you for helping to keep our students happy, healthy and safe by ensuring that your child gets plenty of rest, eats healthy meals, his/her emotional needs are addressed, and receives medical care when needed, including getting a flu shot. Many of our families and staff attended our flu clinic, which will hopefully help to keep the flu at bay.
Staying healthy ensures good attendance by our students and staff, which is important for our students as they strive to take full advantage of every opportunity to learn and grow.
Speaking of learning and growing, the first quarter ends November 18th. How time flies! You will have access to your child's report card on December 3rd on Skyward. Parent/Teacher Conferences are scheduled for December 8th (from 3:15 - 4:15 p.m. and 5:00 - 7:00 p.m.) and December 9th during the school day. Students will be engaging in distance learning on December 9th. Please reach out to your child’s teacher to schedule an appointment. This is a time to discuss our child’s strengths, successes, and how we can better support your child as he/she works hard to achieve success. School and family partnerships are so important.
If you have questions or concerns at any time, please do not hesitate to reach out to me at favila@epschoolsri.com.
Parents and Guardians will screen their child(ren) at home
This will include taking students' temperatures and completing a secure form in Skyward.
As you know, travel is highly discouraged at this time. However, if for any reason you need to travel out of Rhode Island, please check the link below to determine if you and your child are required to test prior to returning to school.
"Travel: If you are coming to Rhode Island from one of the states listed here with a positivity rate of COVID-19 greater than 5%, you are required to quarantine for 14 days after arrival while in Rhode Island. As an exception, you may provide proof of a negative test for COVID-19 that was taken within 72 hours before arriving in Rhode Island. If you receive a test during your quarantine in Rhode Island and get a negative test result, you can stop quarantining. However, you still need to self-monitor for symptoms of COVID-19 for 14 days after arrival, wear a mask in public, and follow physical distancing guidelines. You also must quarantine while waiting for a negative test result.
Quarantining for 14 days is always preferred over relying on a negative test result as quarantining is the best way to limit the possibility of spreading COVID-19."
Please refer to the Superintendent's letter for important information regarding travel.
There will be one (1) breakfast and lunch meal per day.
If your child is going to have a school breakfast and/or lunch, please order your child's breakfast and/or lunch at least one (1) week in advance.
For Students Attending School In Person
Please let your child's teacher know by sending an email/Dojo with the day(s) that your child will have a school breakfast/lunch, and your child's name.

Thank you to all of our students, parents/guardians, and staff for wearing orange on Unity Day.
Unity Day was a great way to remind all of us that kindness matters.
To continue spreading kindness and anti-bullying, please wear orange Friday, November 13th to help celebrate National Kindness Day!
Please send photos to Mrs. Francescon at dfrancescon@epschoolsri.com. All Kindness photos sent to Mrs. Francescon will be posted on our Facebook page (www.facebook.com/silverspringep)
Thank you for being kind all year long!
One of my favorite things to do is hiking and one of a hiker’s favorite sayings is “it’s only another 1/2 mile!” While on the trail close to the summit, this is what hikers tell each other no matter how far the summit lies ahead. (Except when my husband tells the little hikers that there is an ice cream shop at the top!)
We are all on this COVID journey together!! And as hikers do, we need to encourage each other to keep pushing forward! Remember that we can get there faster if we all continue to stay strong with our safety precautions. Your children have been absolutely amazing hikers in this journey.
Each day I watch your children follow our school distancing and mask precautions with such grace and discipline! They are our true heroes!
STAY SAFE, STAY HEALTHY, STAY HAPPY
PLEASE KEEP YOUR CHILD HOME if he or she is not feeling well.
PLEASE notify the school nurse of symptoms of illness. THANK YOU!

As we continue to work, go to school and do the everyday tasks needed, it’s important to take time for ourselves and assess the need for additional support. During this time, we are faced with many changes and challenges, some of which may be difficult to handle or cope with on our own.
If you worry about your child’s functioning or adjustment to these changes, or if you have general concerns about your child’s social and emotional functioning, please reach out to your child’s teacher, the School Social Worker, Ms Swift, or the School Psychologist, Dr. Mabe. We’re happy to discuss student challenges, brainstorm possible solutions and explore community resources, as appropriate.

The following are guidelines from the East Providence School Department:
Dear Parents/Guardians,
As we do our best to support the students of East Providence with online instructional opportunities we wanted to take this opportunity to provide families with some reminders.
Students are expected to be online during scheduled classes and on time to class.
Parents/guardians should be mindful about what family activities would potentially be heard/seen during the students’ use of video conferencing. This is a great tool to keep students connected, but please have your students use these tools somewhere near enough to monitor, yet private enough to concentrate on their work.
Please have students dress appropriately when video conferencing and make sure that there are no distracting materials or backgrounds.
Students/parents/guardians, should not take photos, screenshots, or record any video or audio from these class sessions. This is a violation of our EAST PROVIDENCE PUBLIC SCHOOLS ACCEPTABLE USE POLICY
The tools we use are vetted by our faculty and administrators for data privacy and safety. We will be adding new tools as needed and are mindful of the important aspect of keeping students and student data safe.
Students should be using a district-issued Chromebook. If you do not have one please contact the school office.
Please have Chromebooks charged and secured somewhere safe during sleeping hours. Go Guardian is installed on all district computers and monitors use on district devices at all times.
If the assigned Chromebook is not working properly (broken keyboard, microphone, etc.) please report it immediately to the school so it can be exchanged for a functioning device.
Parents/guardians should refrain from talking with the teacher during a Google Meet. Appointments may be scheduled for non-academic hours with your child’s teacher.
Lastly, the same rules of conduct and behavior will apply when a student is online as apply in the classroom.
If you have questions or concerns about your student’s use of online tools, please contact your school Principal. If you are experiencing technical issues please contact our IT Team at 401 383-2224 x4323.
We appreciate your support during this challenging time and we are working very hard to keep our students engaged and supported.
Benchmarking: Kindergarteners are taking the i-Ready benchmarking assessments from November 9 - 13. Students in grades 1 through 5 completed their i-Ready benchmarking in October.
Weekly Minutes: Students are expected to spend 30-minutes a week on ELA and 50-minutes a week on math. Since time is limited at school this can be accomplished at home by spending approximately 20 minutes each night on i-Ready. Students should also be passing at least one (1) lesson each week for both ELA and math.
i-Ready provides our students with opportunities to practice and develop reading and math skills that will help them succeed in the classroom. Please reach out to your child’s teacher, if you need help logging onto i-Ready at home.
Our teachers have posted material and resources that keep our lessons organized and you informed. All students (in person and distance learning) use Google Classroom everyday to access these materials and resources.
Please check your child's class Google Classroom to stay current with what your child is learning and if he/she is current with assignments. Reach out to your child's teacher, if you have any questions regarding his/her Google Classroom.
Mrs. Avila and Mrs. Francescon also have Google Classrooms that include school wide information. Their class codes are listed below:
