Greetings Silver Spring Families!
Thank you for a successful STREAM Week that consisted of fun events and activities and book fair. The Family STREAM Night was well attended. We welcomed the return of Guest Readers who brightened our days. The whole school BINGO is always fun. The POW Science assembly in which all of our students were once again in attendance, was a welcome return to normalcy.
Thank you for completing the Family Survey Works survey. 93.6% of our families responded, which is amazing! 98% of our staff and 92.2% of our students also completed the survey. We are looking forward to seeing all of the feedback!
We are also continuing with our Math i-Ready March Madness bracket challenge. Our students have been motivated to pass more than two lessons each week to help their class win their respective bracket. The winning classes will win a pizza party and students will also have an opportunity to win prizes. The challenge ends April 14th.
April is another busy month. Third Quarter grades close on April 1st and we are beginning the last quarter of this school year!
Our third, fourth and fifth grade students will be engaging in the Rhode Island Comprehensive Assessment System (RICAS), and our fifth graders will also be taking the Rhode Island Next Generation Science Assessment (RINGSA). The testing schedule can be found in this newsletter. Please ensure that our students get plenty of rest the night before their assessments, and they come to school ready to do their best on their tests! We are confident that our students will put forth great effort, take their time, and do their best. The testing schedule is in this newsletter. Please take a few moments to review it to ensure that your child is prepared for the tests. Please be sure to reach out, if you have any questions.
Spring break is the week of April 18th! This will be a great opportunity for our students to take a break and enjoy the nice weather!
Thank you for partnering with us, so that together we can help our students be respectful, responsible, achieve success and be safe and kind. These are important qualities that will be valued throughout their lives.
Please remember to regularly check your child’s backpack, Class Dojo, and read this newsletter and emails to ensure you are up-to-date with what is going on at our school.
If you have questions or concerns at any time, please do not hesitate to reach out to myself, teachers, or staff. We are here to help!
Thank you for your continued support and kindness. Please know that we all appreciate it!
Have a great month!

The weather is warming up and there are more and more children who are enjoying the playground and park after school, which we are happy to see. We want our students to get fresh air and have opportunities to play with their friends.
Please remember that once students are dismissed to their parents/guardians, school personnel are no longer responsible for incidents that occur at the playground and/or park.
We encourage parents/guardians to supervise their children during this time to ensure that their children are safe and having fun.
Thank you for helping to keep our students safe!

Silver Spring extends a warm heart-felt Thank You to all families who took the Family Surveyworks! Survey. We had 93.6% family participation which is truly remarkable. Surveys are closed, but the SurveyWorks! Process is not over. The next step is receiving the responses. When we review the feedback, your responses to the questions, we’ll know the vast majority of our school population is represented. Our School Improvement Team and PTC look forward to analyzing the results. Our goal is to better serve the students and families of Silver Spring.
The Seven Habits for Successful Silver Spring Stars were created to help improve attendance. One of the best attributes about Silver Spring is the strong teachers who LOVE teaching and students who LOVE learning... If they are not here we cannot teach them.
Students must be present 90% of the time in order to be in good standing by the Rhode Island Department of Education. Currently, we've been in school 75 days. If a student has been absent 6+ days, they are considered chronically absent by the RIDE. (Quarantine absences are not factored into this number.)
Families should make every effort to get students to school every single day. If a student takes days off for vacations or birthdays, and later needs to be quarantined, the absences add up quickly. If there is an appointment, please attend school before and/or after.
We are here for you. Feel free to reach out to Mrs. Francescon
on Class Dojo or email DFrancescon@epschoolsri.com
Each student is assigned a Chromebook once the student has returned the signed Acceptable Use Policy: Computer, Technology, Internet and google for Faculty, Staff and Students Instruction - Instructional Resources and Materials page and the Chromebook Loan Agreement page.
These and other documents can be found at the District's website: https://epschoolsri.org/parents/
Silver Spring School currently has 19 students on the chronically absent list. While there are obstacles this year due to the pandemic, we can do better. Our students are growing academically and socially every day, and we want to help them build their confidence and resilience.
Please reach out if you need help getting your child to school everyday. We are here to help.
Students who arrive on time report to their class line and and they will be escorted into the school by their teacher.
Students who are late report to Door No. 1 with an adult who will need to sign the student. The student will be escorted to his/her class by a staff member.
The end of the school year is fast approaching and with that often comes stress. Stress may be related to testing or upcoming transitions related to friendships, family, or school. Practicing regular meditation is one way to combat stress and build resilience.
The Mayo Clinic provides information about meditation. “Meditation can produce a deep state of relaxation and a tranquil mind. During meditation, you focus your attention and eliminate the stream of jumbled thoughts that may be crowding your mind and causing stress. This process may result in enhanced physical and emotional well-being.
When you meditate, you may clear away the information overload that builds up every day and contributes to your stress.
The emotional benefits of meditation can include:
Gaining a new perspective on stressful situations
Building skills to manage your stress
Increasing self-awareness
Focusing on the present
Reducing negative emotions
Increasing imagination and creativity
Increasing patience and tolerance”

While everyone will be receiving free breakfast/lunch this school year, we are still encouraging parents/guardians to fill this application out. In particular, it will help parents/guardians for the first month of school in September 2022. If students qualify for free/reduced lunch now - that will continue on through until for the first 30 days of school - roughly the second week of October.
We are collecting Pasta Sauce and Tooth Paste for the month of April
Because of the great response to the Feinstein Jr. Scholar Golden Ticket promotion, Mr. Feinstein has decided to continue drawing winning numbers through summertime school vacation!
Winning numbers will continue to be announced every Monday on WPRI Channel 12 during their prime time 4:30 p.m. news program and repeated the following day on our Facebook and Virtual Club right up until the end of August.
So, check your ticket each week to see if you and our school are winners! If you have a winning ticket, hold onto it until the start of school in the fall and present it to Mrs. Avila then. What an exciting moment that would be!
