Greetings School Silver Spring Families!
First of all, thank you again for taking time to meet with your child's teacher(s) to discuss his/her progress. We are all well aware that our students may not be where they would typically be academically. Distance learning, which began in March of 2020, reduced instructional time upon our return in person and distance learning in 2020-2021, as well as absences due to quarantines have impacted our students. We are doing our best to provide our students with SEL and academic support that will help our students work toward and achieve proficiency in all academic areas. We thank you for being a positive and encouraging influence in our students' lives, and are hopeful that our students will be happy and engaged in their learning.
Also, thank you for your generous donations to the Hope & Faith Drive's monthly food collection and to the first grade's community project that will help the ASPCA-East Providence. Your kindness is very much appreciated!
As the weather is now cooler, please remember to send your child into school with layered clothing. Children tend to get hot and cold throughout the school day. At recess, students need to wear warmer jackets/coats, so please label them before sending them to school with your child.
Please read this newsletter and refer back to it when you ar looking for information about events, tips, flyers, etc. The goal of this newsletter is to keep you informed throughtout the month and year. We don't want you to miss anything.

Together, this year is sure to be a great one! Thank you for your continued support, kindness, and understanding. Please know that we all appreciate it!
Have a great month!

Seven Habits for Successful
Silver Spring Stars
In December we focus on Successful Habit #3- sleep. Check out this 3-minute video below on sleep. The benefits of sleep help adults and children alike! Happiness all around!
Sleep 8-10 hours
Benefits- feel happy, focused, improved learning, social relationships,
Lack of Sleep- accident prone, impulsive, overeat, cranky, memory, slow reaction
Attendance
The Seven Habits for Successful Silver Spring Stars were created to help improve attendance. One of the best attributes about Silver Spring is the strong teachers who LOVE teaching and students who LOVE learning... If they are not here we cannot teach them.
Students must be present 90% of the time in order to be in good standing by the Rhode Island Department of Education. Currently, we've been in school 60 days. If a student has been absent 6+ days, they are considered chronically absent by the RIDE. (Quarantine absences are not factored into this number.)
Families should make every effort to get students to school every single day. If a student takes days off for vacations or birthdays, and later needs to be quarantined, the absences add up quickly. If there is an appointment, please attend school before and/or after.
We are here for you. Feel free to reach out to Mrs. Francescon
on Class Dojo or email DFrancescon@epschoolsri.com
Each student is assigned a Chromebook once the student has returned the signed Acceptable Use Policy: Computer, Technology, Internet and google for Faculty, Staff and Students Instruction - Instructional Resources and Materials page and the Chromebook Loan Agreement page.
These and other documents can be found at the District's website: https://epschoolsri.org/parents/
Silver Spring School currently has 19 students on the chronically absent list. While there are obstacles this year due to the pandemic, we can do better. Our students are growing academically and socially every day, and we want to help them build their confidence and resilience.
Please reach out if you need help getting your child to school everyday. We are here to help.
Students who arrive on time report to their class line and and they will be escorted into the school by their teacher.
Students who are late report to Door No. 1 with an adult who will need to sign the student. The student will be escorted to his/her class by a staff member.
As we continue to work, go to school and do the everyday tasks needed, it’s important to take time for ourselves and assess the need for additional support. During this time, we are faced with many changes and challenges, some of which may be difficult to handle or cope with on our own.
If you worry about your child’s functioning or adjustment to these changes, or if you have general concerns about your child’s social and emotional functioning, please reach out to your child’s teacher, the School Social Worker or the School Psychologist. We’re happy to discuss student challenges, brainstorm possible solutions and explore community resources, as appropriate.
Below you will find a list of community resources, ranging from emergency services to outpatient services, psychological evaluation agencies, and in home therapeutic services and support.

While everyone will be receiving free breakfast/lunch this school year, we are still encouraging parents/guardians to fill this application out. In particular, it will help parents/guardians for the first month of school in September 2022. If students qualify for free/reduced lunch now - that will continue on through until for the first 30 days of school - roughly the second week of October.
Pasta Sauce and Shampoo
Because of the great response to the Feinstein Jr. Scholar Golden Ticket promotion, Mr. Feinstein has decided to continue drawing winning numbers through summertime school vacation!
Winning numbers will continue to be announced every Monday on WPRI Channel 12 during their prime time 4:30 p.m. news program and repeated the following day on our Facebook and Virtual Club right up until the end of August.
So, check your ticket each week to see if you and our school are winners! If you have a winning ticket, hold onto it until the start of school in the fall and present it to Mrs. Avila then. What an exciting moment that would be!
