Social Studies

Social Studies is the study of people in relation to each other and the world around them. Students will learn about the issues our world and communities face, helping them to better understand who you are, what you want to become and the society in which you want to live. 

Social 10-2, 20-1, 30-1 

(5 credits each)

Students will explore the meaning and effects of globalization, nationalism and ideologies. The expectation of these courses are more challenging- particularly in concept development, critical thinking and skills development. 

Social 10-2,20-2,30-2 

(5 credits each)

Students will explore the meaning and effects of globalization, nationalism and ideologies. Not all post-secondary schools accept Social Studies 30-2 for entry, so make sure you're familiar with entrance requirements for the programs you're considering. Talk to your counsellors to make sure your chosen courses sequence is right for you. 

Indigenous Studies 10, 20, 30 

(3 credits each)

This course enables students to demonstrate an understanding of issues of Indigenous rights and self-government, Indigenous land claims, Indigenous peoples in Canadian society and Indigenous world issues. 

Both the -1 and -2 course sequences can be used to apply for the Alexander Rutherford Scholarship for High School Achievement.
